Stereo system set up?

1 quality 12 can hit quite nicely given the recommended amount of clean power. I have a small vehicle and although not as sporty as yours, still doesn't have a lot of cabin or hatch volume.

I am running 1 12in type r 4 ohm off of an alpine 500 watt sub amp. My hu is a pioneer DEH 80prs. I have one pair of Polk components up front, but plan on changing to cdt:s next summer. The are run actively using a rf 4 ch amp. 400 watts.

All in all, 900watt system. I think it sounds nice. If you are looking for Sq, put heavy emphasis on the front comps.

Where in WA are ya?

I would suggest a lightweight sub and made from 3/4" birch which is lighter, more expensive than mdf. A custom sub enclosure will be pretty expensive unless you know someone that has fiberglass exp.

@bridgeport13b you have a sick azz rx7 man. love those things. Anyways, as you don't have much space and you don't wanna weigh down your nice sports car, you should go with a single woofer for sure. 10" or 12" depending on how much space you willing to give up. Custom fiberglass is not worth it if you're looking for hard hitting. Going with birch wood is a must for your car. It's super lightweight compared to the traditional MDF wood that most people use. When you get the chance, measure your trunk and get back to us.

For sure I will get some measurements hopefully today, BTW i do have experience in composites as I have done composite classes for about two years
well you'll need to translate that with knowing how to build a proper ported enclosure. proper airspace, proper port ratio, how each sub will perform in each type of port configuration and tuning etc..

Yeah thats the part I dont know haha
you need to calculate volume of the box. Always make it bigger than needed because you need to subtract how much space the sub motor, basket and cone takes up along with how much space the port takes up. So if its a single 12, you'll want around 2.75 to 3 cubic feet of airspace before sub and port displacement and you'll end up around 2-2.25 cubic feet of Net usuable airspace for the sub going with a pvc or aeroport.

These ports will be very long too so either it'll stick out externally or you need to make the enclosure very long in depth, you'll want the subs and port firing to the rear hatch either straight or at an angle slightly upwards either is fine.

Slot ports will require much more starting (gross) cubic feet in wooden enclosures.

So here are some measurements, keep in mind in order to fit sub it will have to be mounted sideways, but in between strut towers is 28in, bottom of car to strut tower brace is 11in and the box can come out probable a foot or two, i still need a little trunk space.

thats only enough space for an 10 inch sub ported or a 12" sealed. If you dont give up space, you wont get hard hitting bass. No space no bass, fundamental rule of car audio.

Any way you can send me some pics of a box i should make just to get a better understanding of the box. Btw any reason not to make a box out of air craft grade aluminum very light.

Ported single 8 can still make some bass, I put one tantric LD 8 ported in my single cab on 600wrms. Had the doors jingling

That cars so small anyways 8 or 10 is plenty

Look at sundown sa-8, American bass xfv 8, tantric ld 8, or soundqubed sdc208

I'm selling a single tantric LD 8 currently

Thanks, btw i went to car toys and listened to a type s 12in sub single and it was perfect for me, will a single type r sound as load as a type s 12in
Should be a little louder if you have more power. Thats not really anywhere near heavy hitting. There's lots of subs out there that make those subs look like a joke for roughly the same price bracket(even less if you are thinking of buying from car toys). You do not have space for a 12 and going sealed, is a waste if you really want heavy hitting. Unless you have a lot of power going to two high powered 10s that work well in a sealed.
