Stereo system set up?

Hi guys I am a new guy and need some help, I have 93 Mazda rx7 and I would like to install a heavy hitting load sound system, I was thinking of running a type r sub, but not sure what size or how many. I would be mounting the sub in rear hatch, BTW the hatch is open to front seats so I am not sure if one sub will do it. Please help me with a set up as I am a complete noob.

Room your using. Budget ? amp power ? And sub size you need ?

Maybe a pair of 10s Budget and goals are needed here

Most subs will need boxes. As the saying goes around here "space makes bass". You'll have to measure the area you want sacrifice in three dimensions to determine how big of a box you can put back there. That will dictate what size sub(s) you could run, as bigger subs need bigger boxes. Also, make sure you have a large enough to get the box into the car. If you're building it yourself I'd recommend making a scale mockup out of cardboard to see if you like the fit.

Type Rs are decent, but there are tons of better options in the same price range, but I'll let others chime in.

Hi I will get some measurements, the most I would probable like to spend is $500, I plan on getting some of the stuff used, I am a bit strapped money wise as I am going a complete turbo set up. But I will get some dimensions. I was planning on making a box to fit but I was thinking of two 10 in subs. To mylows not really sure on power, as I am new to this kinda thing. What sube do you guys prefer in the money range of type r subs.

Just to expound mylow's recommendations:

xfl is a line from American bass

Sa is a line from sundown audio

Obsidian audio is a company. I think they went out of business, but you can still find them used.

Lvl 2 and 3 are lines from dc audio

And Dayton refers to Dayton audio. They make home theater and I believe pro audio woofers, but people use there home theater subs to good effect in car audio.

Yeah, I still have to get 4 door type speakers. Any problems with getting used subs, how do you figure out what kind of power to run with a given sub.
Part of the subwoofer is the voice coil winding. This voice coil has an impedance rating measured in ohms (it's a Greek symbol, I can't do it really on my phone, but look below in my signature). If the sub is an SVC sub it has a single coil coil, if it's a DVC sub it has dual or two voice coils. A svc is straightforward. If it's 4 ohms it's 4 ohms. If it's a dvc sub it's a little more confusing. You have to wire the coils together in either series out parallel.

A dual 4 ohm sub can be wired to 8 or 2 ohms

A dual 2 gets you 4 or 1

And a dual 1 gets you 2 or .5

That's the total impedance of the sub. Now if you have more than one sub the same wiring options apply - series or parallel - same numbers as above for two subs, just instead of wiring two coils you're wiring two subs. Three or more the numbers change (there's a formula). I'd recommend googling subwoofer wiring diagrams to see this in action. Rockford fosgate, crutchfield, and sonic electronix all have good pages.

The subs you're using should have an rms power rating. (I.e 500w rms). You'll want an amp that can do at least that number at the impedance you'll be wiring at. If you have multiple subs the power will be split evenly, so if you have 3 300w rms subs try for an amp that does 900+.

Those are custom fiberglassed boxes. If you want it to look anything like that when you're done you're going to have to take it to a pro shop. Alternatively you might be able to look online to see if they have premade drop-ins for your exact vehicle online. Either way it's not going to be cheap. If you're decently handy and don't mind something more geometric you could build something out of wood or MDF for a lot less.

You want bang on a budget? Get 2 Soundqubed HDS312s, ported box tuned low 30's, and put em on a Hifonics Brutus 1500w amp. It'll give you all the power you need. Subs are $99 a piece, and the amp is like $150. You'll be slammin man
