so while the car is on there is no sound out of the stereo?
Thats correct , sometimes like 10% of the time it works ok doing nothing different and it works fine all the time on the first 2 clicks of the key ( just before starting the car )

Its driving me nuts since everytime i think of something such as amp wires or ground i dont understand why it would work at all if that was the reason

...Any chance you accidentally hooked the factory amp turn on wire into the acc for the headunit...I mean dont know why this would make a difference, but its already strange so....its VERY possible the bose adapter is having lemon issues because it sounds like your factory BOSE amp is not always turning on

Hmm possibly , Thought about that and again it puzzled me as to why it would work at all if this is the case , I followed this for the wiring , its the same as i have :

The Nissan 350Z & 370Z Owners Club • View topic - How to Connect the ICT/InCarTec Bose Loom

A DMM is a digital multimeter. Walmart sells them for like $10, highly recommended to get one of these. You can check voltages and whatnot with it, speaker ohms...etc.
Ah right , I have one of those and a non digital one ready

did you connect the black/white wire to ground?
letter "H" on that pic ? Yep , connected that to the ground wire of the headunits loom and then a cable from that to a ground point.

I thought about grounding them both separatly but then why would it work at all ( i.e before the engine is started )

Honestly bud, kind sounds like your going to have to start metering stuff with the engine started and when its in ign to isolate a problem
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif spent my whole weekend on it and its a real pain in the *** to get it out each time , Someone on the Z Forum mentioned this , does it sound like it could be the issue ?

"the Z uses a remote powered amp, that the HU gets a severe spike (low then high) of power which is causing the problem"

Sounds like you might have to bypass wiring by running your own wiring. I've done it many times...
Actually worked this morning all the way to work then when i turned the car off and on no sound !

I could maybe bypass the power wiring and run it to the battery or run both power wires to the perm live on a switch so its not on all the time but not sure on the amp's power since its built in. Shouldnt have to go through all this though surely

The things i can think of but cant see why it would sometimes work are :

Need seperate ground for the amp power and the head units loom rather than run them both from the same wire ?

Amp power wired wrong , Currently going from Amp cable on headunit to amp wire on ICT adapter , maybe i could run this to the ignition live instead ?

Power Spiking ?
