Don't switch the pulleys that strains the alt.I would use an undersized pulley to get as close to full output at idle as you can, but I would say maybe 1200rms with minimal dimming but it really depends how efficient the amp is at whatever ohm load your going to wire it for.

Something most here never discuss is how much your car is using of that alt. The alt is designed to keep up with everything electrical being ran all at once in some harsh conditions.
This means you are not actually going to be able to use all of that 160 or what ever your stock alt actually is.
That doesn't make any sense...you're just band aiding a problem that causes even bigger issues. how is getting more amperage out of the alt at idle band aiding a problem? If anything it helps the alt in the long run as voltage will drop on any alt as rpm's come down so you get stuck at a light pulling more amperage then the alt can produce at idle now when you take off the alt has to struggle to bring the now slightly drained battery back up as well as continue to feed the stereo that was draining it in the first place.That doesn't make any sense...you're just band aiding a problem that causes even bigger issues. Some alts will "shut off" at higher RPM's and changing out just the alt pulley could cause this.how is getting more amperage out of the alt at idle band aiding a problem? nope an undersized pulley helps at idle but it's nowhere near full output at idle the real concern are brushes and bearings but the amount of increased wear is minimal.Cause by using a smaller pulley the alt will essentially be working at full throttle the entire time...like I said if voltage is a problem turn the gain down or he's gonna be going through alts left and right
