ssd louder then two type r?

sealed, no way. the ssd is a better sub in many ways, but one 12 can't beat 2 unless there is a huge quality difference. Ported, it might hang if you have a lot of power, but cone area is generally cone area.

I like Fi as much as the next non-Fi hating person (trying to set the tone for an unbiased opinion)... but I highly doubt that a single SSD12 will be as loud as a pair of Rs sealed for daily driving //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ported Im sure you could get it to peak out a fair amount more if all you wanted was to be "louder"... but I think that misses the point.

just to throw this out there, 1 ported roughly = 2 subs of the same size sealed
with all other variables the same, i would port the ssd myself
FALSE. Only an ignorant/idiotic person makes such blatantly false statements. ALL porting does is give you a boost AT OR NEAR TUNING. It does NOT boost output ANYWHERE else, and you LOSE output below tuning.

Please don't give people advice when you haven't the faintest idea what you are talking about.

Properly-built ported box >> Properly-built sealed box
Poorly-built ported box

This is also false. Vented enclosures, regardless of design, have inferior group delay to a sealed box, and in an automotive environment, will NEVER have the low low response of a sealed box.

Most vented systems exhibit response peaking in the 35-45Hz area (yours would be a prime example), which can hardly be called a "better" alignment.

if your goal is accurate music reproduction in an automotive environment, sealed nearly ALWAYS is better than ported.

My friend is getting a setup of two 12'' Type Rs get RMS power in a sealed to recommended specs.
If I were to get a Fi SSD 12'' sealed to reccomended specs, would it get louder?

Also what about the SSD ported at reccomdneded specs? Louder?
Probably not. The Type R's outdisplace the SSD by a nice margin, and win for efficiency as well, since they have twice the cone area.

You know sealed is better accuracy wise in general but i think your forgetting one major fact, every sub is different, depending on specs of subs there ARE subs that perform better in ported enclosures, as long as there built correctly. And depending on the ported frequency it will give more output over the mainly used frequency's, aka ported and sealed may have same output at 100 hz, but from the mainly used frequencies for me anyways of 35 hz - 75 hz the ported box is louder over that WHOLE band.
