SSA dCCON line. First Prototypes

In my opinion, the woofers it competes with depend on what it's goals are. wattage rating, SQ/SPL, price, aesthetics, fs, box sizing, and multiple other things come into play. I was just wondering if you had anything certain in mind while you were designing this woofer to try to put it up against, kinda how some new SPL subs are trying to beat out the BTL / MT and the likes.
Regardless, it looks like a great woofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.
Thanks for the compliments. We did not really approach this in a way that we said to ourselves that we need to go after some other sub woofer. At the moment, we are not after the BTL market segment that everyone seems to be doing their own version of.

This sub woofer model line is meant to compliment the Icon. As I said on SSA, this model is meant for people who want the clean response of the Icon, but do not want to run as much power or as large of a sub. Also, we badly needed a high quality offering that was less expensive then the Icon.

As the Icon is what brought the SSA Speakers to market, it set the bar for all our future drivers. So with people being very happy with the sound, we had to address the two groups people that ended up steering away from the Icon when it came time to buy.

The first issue was the people wanting to still have the sound of the Icon, but wanting to reach insane levels of output and higher power handling, not to mention a jump up in Xmax. The other group of people were ones that did not want to spend in the $200's for a sub woofer, but still wanted top notch sound, the Dcon is the answer to those people. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For someone new to your product line, where does this fit next to your ICON? More/less SPL/SQ?
Both are sound quality biased drivers. Our goal with this driver is to retain the high level of clarity people have loved with the Icon, in a smaller package that is geared for people that do not want to run 1000 watts on their sub woofers.

So are these your SQ drivers? Just wondering, I don't quite get Mark's wording in his first posxt, these are launching your high end line these will be the mid level, seems contradictory, lol. Anyway, just wondering what the goals of these are.
The Dcon/Icon/Xcon are all sound quality drivers. That will always be our first and foremost focus. The difference between the lines will be power handling, excursion, and sizes available, all of which progressively increase from one to the next.

From a certain angle, it looked like a pancake **** dustcap. Deerhunt would have bought half the inventory. Especially since his system just got stolen
