Everytime I start my truck its different, 13.9, 14.7, 14.2. it floats around

could be alt at different temps putting out different numbers. does it level out when its warm?

it never changes, if I start it and its 13.9 it stays at 13.9 till I shut it off and start it again, no matter how long its on

bad volt meter? it should fluctuate at least a little.

it does fluctuate a little like ± 0.1, I checked it with a multi meter though, because that's what I thought

I wouldn't worry my Alt has done that from new... I'd only worry when is showing a low reading...

Yeah that sounds like something is malfunctioning in the regulator. I don't think the level should be fluctuating that much.

MMM mine has been like that from new and has been ok for the last three years but then again its Hilux tough lol. I've got a 900cca Lead acid bat and a 3500wrms stereo so I'm surprised if its the regulator it hasn't died already...
