Square Subs True or False?

I have heard that square subwoofers like the Kicker L5 and L7 make a lot of cone noise. I have also heard that a 10" square sub will get louder than a 10" circle sub with the same specs. Is any of this true?

I own a Kicker L7 and it does seem like the sub makes a lot of noise.

What's cone noise?

A square sub has more cone area than a round sub of the same size. Too many variables to say if it one would be louder than the other though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The cone is made out of plastic, whenever it hits it sounds like the cone itself is making noise as the sub flexes.

I've seen other videos where it seemed like it was doing the same thing.

Last time I checked **** near every cone in existance has some flex to it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Haha, would they fix it for me? I can only hear it when I have my trunk open, in the cab you can't tell at all.

Well there's your problem. I would bet you are hearing your subs unloading //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Its because your bass has nothing to bounce off of. Its not a bad sub...it dosent do it when you close your trunk because its bouncing off it and comming into the cab.

EDIT: People on Youtube sounds like that too because they film with an open trunk. My vid on youtube does it too.

Didn't you just answer your own question //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

It's all about the pressure, both inside and outside the enclosure. With your trunk closed , there is pressure exherted on the outside of the cones due to the subs pressurizing the trunk. Open it up, and that back pressure goes bye bye. There is a reason a lot of the large clamshell designs sit opposing each other //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
