SQ Subs

This is a hard thing because everyone has diffrent tastes, I heard the idmaxv3's and didnt like them compared to my jls but it could of just been the install or what I have heard them in 2 cars and in a showroom. I personaly think the jls smoked them, but thats only my opinion. You have to see what people have heard or had and go from there and listen to them on your own and make your own judgement on these because everyones sq taste is not the same.

No way he had the idmax3's then. My buddy does nothing but id in his ride. His subs where 2 12" idmaxv3's1000/rms off an older orion hcca amp and had all id compression horns and id componets. Was best sounding system period. Beat the crap out of the jl demo car this past summer at one of the shows I was at. Had 2 of the 12"w6's off the 1000/1 amp. The id's where cleaner and louder. So I dont know. I mean I am comparing a daily driver who goes to competitions once in a while to a demo jl car and his was clearly the better sounding ride. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I just got my Dls Iridium 10 and it is friggin' amazing! It has good output, given the low wattage I'm feeding it, and I can expect a bump in output over the next few days as the woofer breaks in. Have it in a small sealed fiberglass box in my hatchback, and I just can't imagine needing more for an SQ setup. For me, a 15 is overkill, but I just went from 2 Solobaric 8's(round ones!) to this and I run a pretty low wattage setup. I haven't heard an Atlas, so I can't be very helpful there. I have listened to a bunch of JL's and they sound good, but they are nowhere near the quality of IDMAX/Dls/etc. IMO. My iridium probably isn't the loudest sub, but that's not the goal in sq- what is is nice full range DETAILED bass, and the Iridium delivers in spades so far w/250w rms from my Xtant. I have loved every Dls speaker I have heard. The MW110 is a great speaker too. I'll post pictures of my new setup in a day or so when I get time.

I heard them at local store installs I know alot of people in this area and stores that I deal with. And I am no noob to caraudio. And in my opinion a 1000/1 for 2 12w6v2's is just to little power. I had 1k to each one and they took it with no problem and were loud as hell and clean. Right now I am giving each 700 a piece in a sealed box, and I cant even turn the gain up more because right now I have to watch it because my alpine hu skips to any cd new or burnt. I mainly listen to the radio on loud stuff and I am in a Large suv. I ran the sx 15 l715's and several other installs and NEVER had a problem with the cd player skipping like this and it is not just this cd player my pannasonic did it along with my pioneer 860mp thats why my new hu I bought has a built in 10 gig hd.

Right, but he said SQ, not SPL and being loud enough to make your cd players skip does not equal a great SQ sub. I am not bashing JL, I think they make great stuff, but I think for SQ Other companies make better subs for that application.

But I am just saying they have great sq to almost any other subs i have heard in installs or ran and I can not even begin to tell you how many installs my self I have ran of diffrent modles like I said I have been running setups for about 10yrs now

Yeah I mean if you are running a 1000/1 to each one then in no way shape or form would that be considered sq. The id max's to me sound cleaner and more efficent. That orion hecca amp I told you about was rated at like 400 watts. Was when Orion underated there stuff. But compared to the jl audio setup with all his jl audio componets and 2 12" w6's and a tricked out install. My buddys owned his and owns all sq cars I have heard to date. I wish I had money like him and I would do the same setup.

Dont think I am bashing Jl audio's stuff as I do think they make some awesome products. Thay are very overpriced though. I did think the demo car sounded nice and clean, but just when I heard my buddys car for the first time I was a ID Fan from then on.

How about a 15 SI Mag? What's the sq like on these, i know people say they sound good and get loud, but does it have good sq?
I had a Brahma, XXX, W7, etc, etc. . . Sold them all, got a Mag. Love it.

As previously stated, it will vary between users. For all you know, a $20 Jensen sub may sound good to you. Or, you could spend thousands on a pair of W7s, or equivalent and hate them no matter what the application.

Opinion's are just that.

the thing i like about my dual IDQ15's is the fact that they do have a veright high transient response, and they can hit low notes like crazy. its not a hell of alot of output in the lower frequencies, but its loud enough for me, we did a 138db (i think thats what i was?) on the TL with this setup at ~60hz and MAYBE 800w. so im happy with that. we were doing a constant 135 with music.

the only problem im comming across right now, is the fact that i dont have my setup properly crossed over (crossover is out for repairs ATM) and there are a few vibrations that i *have* to take care of.

otherwise, they do sound pretty sweet.

but again, NOT SPL subs.

Ya, not really worried about that, SQ subs will go great with the ology component set. I can highpass the mids at 100hz then instead of 80 and be able to turn em up even louder, and then also that pesky 60-100 hz can be taken care of, not all that much output in that range since the SX box is tuned to 32 hz. I think it is definitely a smarter idea to go with sq subs sealed since I listen to metal and rock mostly.

For metal you might want to rethink the 15", not really all that much super low info in the music and it is a lot of cone to recover from fast transients--not that there aren't some 15's that are faster than 10"s.

One other note, since you live in Minny and all the JL dealers around pretty much blow goats it has turned me off on JL. Funny since I would probably buy off the net anyways, but stopping into most of the local shops makes me a bit sick.

Nope.... That atlas 15 is one of the most accurate subs i have ever heard. XBL^2 motor on it ;P lets get serious. it's like a Tempest on steroids.... ~$125 for a 15" atlas would be a lovely setup :p

3 cubes sealed will play a 20Hz test tone all day

The Orion @ 4 ohms would make a good partner as well :p

Not even going to bother getting the orion if I get an atlas though, orion only puts out 425@4ohms (although underrated), but my rockford puts out 600@4ohms, so i'm good there.

well then sell your SX 15.... pay $125 for an atlas, and pocket $200+.... you'd be golden. Could probably even do a direct switch out ;P
Ya, I should do this, maybe once the holiday season Is over and i have more time and whatnot, I decided to not go with this deal on the atlas now, I need the money more than anything now. And what do you mean by a direct switch out? Just not having to change the gains on the amp? Or keeping the same box? Because I don't think a 4 cube 32hz ported box will work well for what I want since I'm goin for sq.
