explain dual voice coil on single speaker to me

I am thinking about an Alpine Type S 10 inch sub. I see that it has a dual voice coil on it....yet its a single speaker. its rated at 2 ohms and 2 ohms. This dual voice coil stuff is all new to me.

So...if I were to hook this up to a single mono sub....does that mean that I'd either hook it up in parallel (positive terminal on vc to posive terminal on vc to positive output on sub amp). Would that then give me 1 ohm? Or series (positive terminal to negative term on other coil, etc) for 4 ohms?

Would my Profile mono 600 msx sub (410 W @ 2 ohms 300@4 ohm) run this sub? I dont think this amp is 1 ohm stable so I'd almost have to run it at 4 ohms unless there is a way to run a dual voice coil at 2 ohms.
