SQ amp for Components

You don't have to believe me, just keeping on buying and selling like I once did and you will learn after a while the same lesson that myself, gunz4me and others learned.
I am trying to find a link to a story regarding a car audio competitor years ago but I can't so I will tell it from memory. DudeX went to a car audio competition, running Pyramid Gold, and was ragged by everyone, including the judges, and scored poorly. For the next competition, DudeX went with the same Pyramid Gold amplifiers placed inside of another popular brand's heatsink. He received all kinds of praise for how good his system sounded and some of same judges who raked him over the coals gave him a much higher score. Same amp circuit boards, different heat sinks, praise and higher scores.... Hmm, something to think about;)

lol, I wonder if we have fallen victim to the car audio urban legends? Then again, this was told to me by a former IASCA competitor, so it may be true! Brand bias in the 90s was a bad thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

ETA: Plus, I have killed a bunch of innocent brain cells since the story was told to me, so my memory may not be the best on that one:laugh:

Lol, as for all the road noise and car type, i have a 07 mustang gt, and i have so much sound deadener in there its not funny...seriously i put enough for two cars. Also, one of the brands recommended to me was nakamichi (spelling?) he said they were old school. I never heard of them, are they any good?

I remember in the late 80's my buddy had 2 12 inch pyle drivers in the back of a Chevrolet Corsica running off of a 300 Unic amp that out performed the Punch 300 and 650. Unic was as cheap a swap meet brand that you can find back then. The same theory holds true today. If you get a decent well built amp, good speakers and also a good head unit, you cannot hear the difference between brands. A lot of car audio businesses are functioning off of that premise today. gunz4me a lot of the same amps built in Asian buildhouse will not be existence 10-20 years from now because more and more people will get tired of those cheaply built amps. The better quality amps will last longer because they are built with better quality components and have better crossover sections built in them, etc. Good brands to look into are Sundown, Alpine, Atomic, MTX, Kicker, etc.
Wasting your money on the premise that different amps have different sounds is what keeps these car audio companies in business. A person that really believes in the differences should get their picture put up on the "sucker of the month" wall in the sales sections of the car audio companies.

The smarter guys such as N2Audio, gunz4me, RFvega and others just sit and look at all the fools on different car audio forums trade and sell their amps on the premise that there is something that will sound better out there. Find a brand that you believe in and stick with it.
BULLSHIT..... you guys crack me up. Just because YOU can't hear a difference. People like me that can are supposed to ignore what we can hear with our own ears because YOU say so... whatever. For someone who claims they're one of the "smarter guys" you don't sound very smart. Bottom line is if your happy with a midgrade amp good for you. Probably saves you some $ but don't try to put other people down just because they can hear a difference in amps. Maybe our hearing is better than yours. Whatever it is, for you to say that it doesn't sound different because you don't hear a difference is kinda ignorant.

Nakamichi cd players are very good. They're amps are alright but there is much better out there...

Well I guess I'll scratch them off the list, and i was trying to stay out of the argument, but i haven't been in a good one all day... Yes there is a difference in amp quality, if there wasn't we could all go to Wal-mart, by Sony explodes (or other POS that you find there) for 75 bucks and win a SQ competition...but since that doesn't happen, there must be something different between each amp. I am a student at LSU in computer engineering, I deal with circuits and electronics on a daily basis, I know for a fact that two totally different looking circuit boards can do the same function. Technically I guess you could say I am wrong when saying a "SQ amp", there are no SQ amps, there are just amps with better specifications that allow the initial input to be replicated as close as possible making them great for SQ. I only want helpful advice, whether you are gonna talk bad about a brand or good about one, I don't care, as long as you can justify your point. Now, If anyone wants to sit there and tell me that there is no difference in amp quality, you can STFU and GTFO my thread...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

*gets off soap box*

imo people spend all the extra money for peace of mind and people tend to be brand biased.

Ampwise i personally plan to buy either dls, or image dynamics next. mainly because i like the way they look which imo is another reason people buy certain brands

US Amps are good, thats actually what I had, I was just gonna try something new, I like to try other brands so I don't become biased. Still open to a few more suggestions.
