SQ amp for Components

If you want a nice amp with a great name that does rated power, I have a new model Audison SRX4 that is 5 months old for 200it is mint and one of the best amps ive owned to date.

I vote this one and then you still have money left over. Does rated power like stated and like everyone else is telling you, it'll work just as good as the high end of audison.

First off, we are talking about CAR audio in an environment that can have a noise floor as high as 70 decibels while traveling down the highway.
Secondly, if you are so confident in your ability to hear differences between power amplifiers, I believe Richard Clark has $10,000 waiting for you;)
I'm very confident in my ability to hear differences between amplifiers. How do I get ahold of this richard clark guy? Lol I could definately use the $. Seriously there are huge differences in sound when comparing amps. Granted some will sound similar but to say they all sound the same? Cmon... and as far as a noise floor, sometimes it gets loud but that's not when I do my critical listening. Sometimes I just sit in my truck and listen to music with the car shut off. There's no noise floor then. If there's no diff between amps then why are some amps so sought after even when they're old and used? Hype? I don't think so. Its cause they sound better.

I wish you luck and please post back the results of the challenge.

I agree there are some differences. Some subtle, some more noticeable depending on the amp in question. The full range Alpine PDX amp is one of the few modern amplifiers that I find to sound weird. They seem to lack midbass and I am not the only one who has noticed that they are a little on the cold side.

You should hear my 2006 Mustang GT that I purchased used with Borla Stingers already installed if you want to talk about a noise floor from hell. The only car noisier than mine that I have heard with a sound system in it was a buddy's Camaro SS with a supercharger and Magnaflow exhaust making 650 RWHP. For these vehicles, there is no way you would catch me recommending Tru, Sinfoni, or Brax unless it was for the sheer sake of wasting money.

Till this very day, Linear Power remains my favorite amplifier to put on mids and highs. I don't know what it is, but I have yet to find an amplifier that gives me the Linear Power sound. The other plus is that Linear Power was handmade in the USA and I can generally repair them myself. For the most part, I have only needed to replace resistors from eBay idiots who ran them too low, or audio filter caps, but that is about it. I did have one that had a sticking relay, but thumping it a few times fixed that issue:laugh:

Regardless, I wonder how many Asian build house amplifiers that are all the rage right now will still be going strong 10, 15, or 20+ years from now?

That's not quite the test...it's between things that measure the same //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hey bulldoggeh, Butlers arent tube, just a tube preamp section.
Dipshit.
Actually, the tubes are coupled to the outputs but I think what your trying to say is its a tube hybrid amp which it is. Maybe you should try reading about a product before you call someone a dipshit.....

DIPSHIT!

Your gonna get pwnd

There is a really nice (IMO) zed built planet audio hvt754 with a tube preamp stage

in the classifieds. Makes me wish I was in the market for an amp.

NO ONE has won the Richard Clark challenge. That includes audiophile reviewers for top audio magazines. But hey, all you need to do is put up your $200, bring him a couple of amps that you KNOW you can tell the difference between, and watch Richard Clark keep your $200 when the test is over:laugh:

I remember in the late 80's my buddy had 2 12 inch pyle drivers in the back of a Chevrolet Corsica running off of a 300 Unic amp that out performed the Punch 300 and 650. Unic was as cheap a swap meet brand that you can find back then. The same theory holds true today. If you get a decent well built amp, good speakers and also a good head unit, you cannot hear the difference between brands. A lot of car audio businesses are functioning off of that premise today. gunz4me a lot of the same amps built in Asian buildhouse will not be existence 10-20 years from now because more and more people will get tired of those cheaply built amps. The better quality amps will last longer because they are built with better quality components and have better crossover sections built in them, etc. Good brands to look into are Sundown, Alpine, Atomic, MTX, Kicker, etc.

Wasting your money on the premise that different amps have different sounds is what keeps these car audio companies in business. A person that really believes in the differences should get their picture put up on the "sucker of the month" wall in the sales sections of the car audio companies.

The smarter guys such as N2Audio, gunz4me, RFvega and others just sit and look at all the fools on different car audio forums trade and sell their amps on the premise that there is something that will sound better out there. Find a brand that you believe in and stick with it.
