Sponsor membership - Suggestions

The coding is pretty much in place. The only slightly tricky part is automating the paypal signup process and auto convert a member to sponsor member. But I'm sure we can figure it out. I'm just making sure this idea is worth the time and effort.
Can't you already use the Paid Subscriptions option for this?

Goob, it's going to be a double edged sword. If you go for this, you're going to get a shit ton of emails from whining paying members complaining about other vendors or just regular users for promoting products. Then they're going to want to get you to delete threads, edit posts....etc. You start doing that here and their will be rioting and alot of people leaving.
Im very respectful of the fact that you've not done this so far with Ant. Collectively as a forum, we all know he's a douchebag. Im sure he probably bitches to you already about what members say on here. Don't loose that integrity - implementing this I think would just amplify the possibility of it with paying members.
That is true, but mods will just have to delete those threads in question. Anything that is implemented is going to be hated/liked equally, just one of those things. But overall, if it helps out the site, then it must be the thing to do.

I personally don't feel that way toward Ant, but Second Skin is now under new ownership, so members don't need to worry about issues with Ant now. I for one can say that he was great to work with.

My question is
With the enstatement of this, would that mean the non paying advertisements will be done away with? Or non paying users who advertise banned? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Non sponsor members who do advertise will have to be warned or banned if they don't amend their actions. But, there are more that comes with sponsored membership, such as 4x larger PM box, sponsor member forum to sell items, title change, which isn't that important, and maybe even a step further, such as an "Approved Seller" seal of approval for sponsor members. Also, maybe no ads on the forum to put up with for sponsor members as an added option, etc.

They would have to cut off one, least desirable finger and send it in for verification purposes only. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hide.gif.2d479cfd917eedfe201353b91522ceab.gif

Postage paid of course with membership

I personally want this to become REAL and soon.

I am currently an importer for the USA and have the authorization to do deals internationally.

The business and what i do is irrelevant for this discussion but i am preparing to be a registered member on at least big car audio site and trust me when i say if you do this, there will be a LOT of competitor traffic and new information being shared on this site soon.

All other sites charge FAR more than what you are requesting. I am completely in agreement for this possible option.

I would like to say this-

I see people in this thread complaining that paying members for this could abuse it and spam their ads all over the place...

If this was already in effect, they should ONLY be allowed to post their products in THEIR OWN classified section ONLY.

Just like companies have their own subforum, same thing with this.

All other forum policies are still enforced regardless how much money one contributes, that's how i see it.

If i owned the largest car audio business in the world and started posting new subs n amps in the classified section, i'd expect a 1 time warning then banned for a week or permanently.

To be professional about being a paid member for the sole purpose of promoting your products is to use your own forum that is provided to you.

If someone who is this kind of member doesn't understand that, this site isn't for them, plain and simple. If a user is a true professional in the business world, then following a forum policy is a peace of cake.

Should be the end of the thread right there.

If you are serous about this, i would suggest adding more options for the warnings/infractions. the 2 or 3 you have are not relevant. Or at least give the option to leave a custom reason for the infractions. Then you need to actually set up real rules that mods need to use to process bans, infractions, etc. one of the problems you have always had is that you have no real rules or guidelines. The TOS of the site are very generic and open to interpretation. You also have allowed the mods to make the rules up as they go along.

If you are serious about this stuff let me know. We can discuss this more in detail.

See, that's bullshit. Mod's are never responsible enough, or should I say honest enough to deal with this. For example, I was on the Corvette fourm the other day and posted in a thread just suggesting ficaraudio and mach 5 car audio to someone just to throw out some other example of non-mainstream equipment providers to the original poster. I had all my posts deleted because a supporting vendor complained to a mod. Everyone knows on this site at least that I have no ties with either company, other than being chummy with the owners. So is this what is going to happen here now? Goob....is that "good" for this site?

I think more of what you're talking about is a fully fledged car audio business advertising on the forum, such as ones with their own brand name equipment, maybe even their own forum themselves, with many for sale threads a day, etc. I was seeing the sponsor member option, as something for small sellers to have a little better positioning and features they need to sell on here. Usually, a dealer this large would need their own site and be directed to advertise on the CarAudio.com homepage in the "top shopping sites".

Or, perhaps the price should be higher and only let sponsor members post in their own forum, etc. I see what you're saying though. In a perfect world, I guess we could have 2 sponsor member type memberships available. One for small dealers and one for large dealers, with their own brand, etc. But, that would be hard to police from keeping the 1st tier sponsors from reaching into the 2nd tier areas, etc. Lot to think about on this one...
