SPL port tuning question?

Im gonna start building my new enclosure pretty soon. Heres the scoop, my vehicles sweet tones are 53,54hz. My old enclosure is tuned to 49hz, which is high. I heard I should tune it to 43hz and someone else said 40hz. What should I tune my port to if my sweet spot is 53-54hz???

I'm in the same boat as this guy. My competition enclosure is tuned to 45 Hz, but the resonant frequency of my vehicle is 47 Hz. Should I alter the enclosure to be tuned to 47 Hz? Someone told me that I should leave the enclosure as is, but that I should simply play a 47 Hz note when I compete? Is this correct? It was my understanding that you should tune your enclosure to the resonant frequency of your car and then play that exact note in competition? I think my questions may help clear up what SPL140.2 is not understanding either. Let us know.

You normally don't want to tune your box to exactly the res freq of your vehicle because ported boxes tend to peak 5-8hz above the tuning frequency.

Like Moe said....it's just about testing and finding out what works best.

Ok, cool. So it's possible I may actually want to tune lower?

give it a try, you may gain a db, or loose one.

in SPL stuff, you tend to have to build several boxes before you perfect it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Or just simply build a removable port. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
