Hey i just installed a viper alarm in my car with a remote start.

Everything was working fine for the first few times.

Id notice every once in a while when my keys were inserted the gauges would run a test, spin up and then back down.

Before the alarm they never did this...

Well this time they went up and the speedo kept going and then maxed out at 120. All the other gauges went down but the speed is stuck at 120.

I pulled the battery, pulled fuses, started the car. Everything works but the speedo. Does anyone know how to fix this?

truck is a 2004 dodge dakota v6

where is your tach wire?

the alarm has a tach wire that i wired to the #1 fuel injector..

that worked because the remote started learned the signal and started up perfectly the first time.

I just started right now and the gauges dont jump at all they work normal all except for the speedo =/

ima go drive soon, hope it falls back down.

if not ima go ***** all the forumz for an answer!

as it was said previously i have seen a speedo fall off of the post, that may of happend if during the test it tried to turn to far
ill looked at all the needles at it doesnt look like its fallen off I could be wrong but how do you check? do i have to yank it out and pull off the top?

uploading pics and vid now

you may have lost the ground on the speedo wire. I think they max out, when ground is lost. You may have knocked it off messing with the wires up there.
Ill take a look at it and jiggle around some wires when i get a chance.

I just dont understand why the speedo is the only one that maxed out. I know the Consoles have some fuses on the back so ill see if i can pull it off to inspect it later with my dmm.

Why would they max out when they loose ground though? when you unplug themn they drop... not rise

Wooo it fixed itself as i was driving down my street. Thank god for that. I also got some diodes that were required for the door triggers as my car alarm will go off about3 min later after i lock the car reporting an open door:crazy:
