speaks still clipping after proper gain setting

Alright before i dive into the problem ill give you some background on the setup. I have a set of CDT EF-61CF components in my front doors, they're 140 watts RMS and the overall resistance of it is 4 ohms at the speaker wire input of the crossover, atleast thats what im deducting. I also have a pair of 2 MTX blue thunder 12's that are 8 ohms. All of this is going into a Kicker KX850.4 that does 175x4 at 4 ohms, 215x4 at 2 ohms, and can be bridged at 425x2 at 4 ohms. there are 4 terminals on the side of the amp for each speaker, I have my front components going into the first two terminals under what is labeled "AMP 1". Theres no series or parallel wiring going on just straight positive side of wire to positive end of the terminal and negative side of wire to negative end of the terminal. So the first 2 terminals are filled. I then have the last 2 terminals bridged together for my subs. The positive side of the wire goes into the positive hole of the 3rd terminal and the negative side of the wire goes into the negative hole of the 4th terminal.

Now onto the problem. I read the gain setting tutorial carefully and deducted that i need to have 26.45 volts reading on the DMM when i was setting the gain for "AMP 1" which is the gain for my components. (Sqrt(174*4) Right? I made a 1khz test tone cd, had all my settings on my Eclipse CD8445 just the way they are when i normally listen to music, i had the volume on 50/80 all my crossovers set to off on the amp and all the bass boost and crossover dials all set to the lowest setting. So i set the gains and then turn my crossovers back on and pop in a normal cd and the speakers are f*cking clipping like crazy!! I had to turn it all the way down to like 30/80 to stop them from clipping, i then turned the gain back wayyyy down from where i set it to earlier. Did i do something wrong when i calculated it. Are my components actually putting a 2 ohm load on the amp and thus getting 215 watts from it? I need help

That amp WILL NOT give you 175rms @4ohms.

Kicker rates their amps for full output @2ohms per channel... or 4ohms bridged.

Therefore your amps ratings:

425rms x 2 @4ohm bridge

212.5rms x 4 @2ohms

106.25rms x 4 @4ohms

Kicker amps are a little underrated, so you could prolly go with 110-115rms @4ohms per channel.

You ARE clipping the hell out of your amp, because you're asking it to create power it can't provide //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. Also, the term proper gain setting includes NO clipping, so therefore... it's not really set properly. If you here clipping... turn it down.

So, reset your gains. I'd set it to ~110rms for the fronts per side @4ohms. For the subwoofers I'd go with ~450rms bridged @4ohms.

So 21V AC for Amp1, and 42.4V AC on the bridged output of Amp2.

Done.

Also, if you have an entirely amped system. I recommend setting gains somewhere near max volume... for better pre-out voltage. So, I assume you have an eclipse unit? I'd set my gains with the volume on around 70/80...

w00t.
