speaker wiring...

i have been puzzled for quite a while as to why the different wiring options do what everyone says they do for output. this is probably me just being stupid somehow, but evey time that i put in numbers for speakers being run off of the same power source, i get the same output from the speakers whether they are running in series or parallel. i would test it out to see if i can hear anything, but i dont have an amp that is stable with a low enough load for me to wire in parallel... i understand how wiring in parallel vs. series will affect the amp, but i still do not understand how it effects the output on the speaker end of it... if someone is willing to take the time to explain the entire power transfer from the + terminal to the - one on the amp, i would be very appreciative. Thanks!

are you then saying that if i am running two speakers @ 4ohms each running in parallel in series to an amp that puts out a given wattage@ 2 ohms and the same speakers running in series to a different amp that puts out the given wattage as the other but at 8 ohms they would both be putting out the same amount of power from the speakers after accounting for the change in resistance/impedence from the speakers from what the amp sees to what it actually is?
