Speaker Wire Question

Hello all need some help...

bought this kit...http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK44

it comes with 20 ft of speaker wire. Can this speaker wire used to hook up the woofer and tweeters to the crossover and then the crossover ( its a component system) to the amp?

Also to hook up the amp to the subwoofer do i use this speaker wire?

i know i probably wont have enough wire but just asking.

Is it true it is best not to use the stock speaker wire in place?

Just find some 14 or 16g wire... 12 is wayy over kill...

stock speaker wire is usually ok unless you're running 100wrms + to your comp set. With that said, you should have enough wire with 20 ft. to do all the comp set and subwoofer wiring.

yeah its gonna be 150 rms to comps and 600 rms at 4 ohms to the woofer...thanks for help

With your sub you can run a lower gague wire b/c it is so close to your amp (assuming the are both in the trunk..)\

14g is a good all around size..

i have 8 gauge wire for my subs

is that overkill?

i didnt notice a difference - but could 8 gauge actually be HURTING my performance?

I don't see why it would hurt anything... I just think that that is wayyyyyyyyyyy over kill... lol.

would also be a tight fit in the terminals...

It fits nice and snug in the terminals. I had the wire laying around and I was bored so I did it, b ut i already knew not to expect much

Without knowing his setup you cannot say its overkill. I use 8 gauge from my amp to the box, then IIRC 12 or 14 to the sub (coils in parallel)

4 gauge from battery to amp

8 gauge from amp to sub box terminals

whatever JL puts inside the box is what i got

Need to know the wattage you're running and nominal impedance of the subs.

I would just buy some 16 awg wire for the speakers. There is no sense in running 12 awg for components or whatever you plan to power. 12 awg works great for subs.

18 gauge work well for tweeters (components)... i heard smaller is better for tweeters?

16 gauge for woofers (components)

12 gauge from crossovers to amp

and 12 gauge from amp to sub?

Just get 14g all around...

12 for subs, 14/16 for comps. No need to have all different sizes.
