Carputer Soundcard Question

Hard to place which sub-forum to use so please move it if needed.

I am building a carputer to run my system (there will be no HU). Anyone have experience with this? I am asking because I am looking for a good sound card or DAC to take audio from computer to amps but its hard to find reviews. Tried some other more carputer related sites and get crap info so I thought I'd give it a shot here.

So far my best pic is a USB SC from Turtle Beach. Budget would be around 100ish.

Thanks for the input but the only issue is it has to be USB driven. The computer I am going to use is a super small mobo/case without any PCI slots to speak of.

M-audio makes USB sound deivces. A lot of different ones in fact.

Hmm I'll look at their site again, maybe I missed it.

I was also recommended a Creative Audigy NX or something like that. A person used that USB and powered it with the 5V from the power supply.

They don't have much in USB solutions for that new series. Only 1 option and the reviews arn't too good it seems.

I was looking more for just a soundcard. I know they make lots of USB's for recording but they are all out of my price range.

No, creatives are not awesome for what the OP is looking for. I assume he wants a sound card with great sound quality. Creatives are for gaming. Period.

Look at E-mu. Division of creative that specializes in DJ audio and such, have wonderful DAC's, but not sure about USB. I know they have PCMCIA cards...

true, plug and play is always nice

Plug-and-play operation with hands-on control of all major functions like direct monitoring level, headphone level, preamplifier gain and more

directly off e_mu site. Personally I think this is your best option, the balanced output will make things easier since you dont have a headunit.

Thanks for the input but it's far too much money. Most of the stuff I am looking at is around $70.
