Hi, I have a 2012 Camaro with the upgraded Boston Acoustics system. I replaced the stock amp with a PPI P900.4 a couple of years ago and ran the stock speakers with no issues (still on stock HU).
I recently got a sub to put in place of the rear speakers, but still running the stock fronts. Lately something very strange has been happening...the front speaker will play fine, mostly at startup after not playing for a long time. after 30 minutes of playing or so (sometimes sooner) the driver's side speaker gets a buzz to it and sounds like it is busted. it will first bust on bass notes, then 5 minutes later everything will buzz, even NPR. i turn the car off and let it sit overnight, the next day speaker sounds fine for 30 minutes and repeats.
is the speaker busted? a wiring issue possibly? anything else? it does this on all input sources.
EDIT: i used the multimeter to test the resistance of the speakers. actually i unplugged the wires that go to my amp and tested both the driver's side and passenger's side door. the ohms on both read 3ohms, which is right. but that would hint not a wiring issue and that the sub is not blown. so why the heck would it go all staticky randomly?
EDIT 2: per usual, after driving around for 30 minutes it cut off again to the rattle/buzz thing. i immediately disconnected it from the amp and did the ohm test again, was at 2.6ohm instead of 2.9ohm earlier. could that slight dip in resistance be the reason? also i tried putting it on the right channel in the amp (thinking maybe the amp was at fault), but that same speaker still sounded the same. so i'm lost.
