Hey everyone, its been a while since I was in the car audio world, so bare with me haha.
Had a 2000 chevy Silverado LS that I learned (through trial and error) how to install car stereos.
From basic stuff to learning more advanced things, and also finding out the sound I liked.
my equipment was something like this :
mechman 270 amp atl
pioneer head unit
audiocontrol 3.1
some old jl audio 6.5's in the front door, and 4 tweeters on the dash.
powered by a 4 channel blaupunkt (sp)
Sundown audio SAZ 2000d
Sundown audio nightshade 18 v.2
When I sold the truck I took everything out and got an 04 gmc sierra. I thought about putting the stuff back in the sierra but it came with a bose system. so a little more complex and I just didn't have the time.
But now I am pretty excited to build a new system from scratch. When I first built that system I was 19 and it was semi sloppy/not really clean. but sounded great to me.
Now I want to do a nice clean build, with some quality parts.
I plan on taking the entire bose system out. I got some help in finding an integration wiring harness that will be basic enough to get the job done. (I don't use onstar and I wont have anyone bose equipment in the truck anymore) so im going with a metra gmsc 01 (sp)
Still undecided on the head unit, but I am leaning towards some mid to high end kenwood or pioneer receivers that incorporate the phones and ipods and touch screens. I like the double din stuff.
That is the background and here is my dilemma :
I want to use some good sounding speakers. the trucks trim is much nicer that the Silverado I had. Plus I want to do it right, use sound dampener on the door panels ect. I was told that I could also build a surround for the inside of the speakers in the door? almost like a box, but circular?
anyways I just want to do my front stage. A bare minimum I want to replace the speakers up front, in their stock placements. (tweets on the A arches on the dash, and door speakers). I don't want to spend a fortune, but I also am not in highschool anymore and I want to get some quality stuff.
- shooting for maybe the 200-400$ range for the speakers.
But what size should I get? I know the doors fit 6.5" speakers but I could get a bracket to fit some other stuff. If I have the choice, what is the best speaker size?
Second thing, once I get a good pair, eventually id like to maybe add a 5.25" speaker in the door (fabricate something new for it) and another tweeter on the dash.)
My amp pushes something around 50 watts rms. Id like to replace that soon too. I love my sundown amp and sub, so id consider the sundown 100.4 amp. solid, and plenty of headroom.
thanks for the help all, sorry it is a bit of a ramble haha
