SWINE FLU!!!!
ok, so i know that in a regular car, the sub goes in the back, then you put the speakers in the front to even it out...

but im' buying a 79 volkswagen and the trunk is in the front. so my sub goes in the front. would i put my speakers in the front or the back?

this might be a stupid question but please bare with me.

Last time i saw a vwagon it had a wall behind the seat with 4 12's seems to me like it would sound weird with the sub up front
Why? The bass is supposed to sound like it's in front of you. And no better way to create this effect than actually having the sub infront of you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

As to the original question.....we don't put the speakers in front to "balance out" the sound because the subs are in back. We put speakers in front because we want the soundstage to be created in front of us, like it would be at a live concert (for example). The only reason most people put subs in the rear is because that's the only place most vehicles have room without doing major surgery to the vehicle. So yes, you would still put the speakers in the front of the car.

I had a Cal look '64 Bug when I lived in Hawaii. 10" sub in the trunk, 5.25 coaxials in the doors, 6x9's in custom made rear shelf.

Very nice sound.
