speaker mounting

i just got done making my slim box for behind the seat of my truck and when i show people, the first thing they ask is "why did you put the speaker on one size? rather than in the center?" that made me think i didnt really have a reason other than "thats how i see all of the others done." the kicker and pioneer boxes with shallow subs have the sub mounted on one side. my question is there a reason for this? is it better in the center, side, or does it matter?
