aaahhhh!!! i jsut spent 225 dollars on speakers and now i have distortion problems with the factory head unit!! ok so i have a 2003 jeep wrangler with the 4 speaker system. i jsut bought infinity kappa 52.5i and 462.fp (4x6 plate). i have them hooked up to the factory head unit and they distort very easily.. i called crutchfield and they say that i need more power. personally i dont see how htat is gonna make them stop distorting but wat do i know. wat is yalls opinion? i have a 27watt RMS alpine head unit i have yet to install but if power is my only problem is that gonna be enough or do i need more power? tahnks alot

nope i dont have any subs..... i jsut dont understand how if they are distorting with my stock headunit how will adding more power make it better..... doesnt more power jsut make it worse..... by the way the speakers are 60 watts RMS..... i need more opinions

No, see ur only giving the speakers half of there wattage 27/60 at this time... when a speaker is underpowered and u turn ur headunit up this will cause distortion fom being underpowered.. get a 50x4 amp atleast and u will se a signicant difference ..

Maxima, you dont get distortion just from overpowering speakers. In fact, from what ive seen of friends and aquaintences' systems, distortion is caused more often by underpowering.

See basically, when you underpower a speaker, its going to take all the HU's power to the highs(just for example) so all the bass hits are distorted cuz theres not enough power to make them follow through so to speak.

alright thanks guys.... jsut to let u know i am having these problems running the speakers off the stock head unit in my jeep... i have yet to install the alpine so hopefull that will cure my problems or i will jsut amp them.... thanks again if anyone has any other food ideas i would like to hear them

stock head unit is only good for stock speakers...

if you have the alpine unit put it in from the specs it seems like you have either a 9813 9815 9833 or 9835 right

these will provide around 23-26 rms...you will notice a significant increase over stock head unit. The sound will be much better. But like everyone said, get a 4 channel amp...underpowering them is just as bad as overpowering i think...you get clipping when u underpower, or that's what i got when i had my old deck

running 9833 now with polk/momo mmc659, with only 24 watts its decent...havn't had time to put in my tsunami db4440 yet...

hey i Too have a jeep wrangler, and am looking to upgrade my "system", b/c stock blows... i an also looking at those speakers, and i am wondering if you installed you new head unit, and if so did the problem fix? What size/ and brang/and model speakers are you running in your sound bar?

ya i installed the head unit it and my problems went away! thanks guys..... in my sound bar i have the infinity kappa 52.5i speakers.... they are great too.... ya iwould highly recommend changing out ur speakers!! depending on wat year model u have u might be able to put 6.25" speakers in your bar.... i had a 2001 wrangler and it had a sound bar htat went all the way across the rear behind the roll bad and u could fit 6.25" speakers in there..... but i now i have a 2003 and it has like speaker "pods" that are molded from plastic so they wont fit.... if ur intrested i have 4 63.5i speakers (infinty kappa) . hit me up

but how do the speakers up front the 4x6" plates sound? Do they sound alright? Any distortion? When the tops is off can you hear them fine?how loud is it? B/c right now with the completly stock i can turn it up all the way and bearly hear them on the highway when the tops down. THANX

ya i had that problem with the stock system... but now it has ample power..... the 4x6" are fantastic with suprisingly good bass. the only thing is u have to buy a mounting bracket for the 4x6" , i didnt know about htat when i purchased mine so it took a little while longer to get them installed. u can buy those from crutchfield.com
