Speaker boxes/enclosures?

has anyone tried putting midrand speakers (say 6.5") in a sealed (or ported) enclosure to get better response?

if so, how did they help? (if at all)

i have several times in the doors. but they have all been sealed. the sound got warmer like there was more midbass and midrange to them then compared to when they where in the door as free air. also the low end bass that got to the speaker got tighter and i could raise the power level without distorting on the bass notes, when ever i was playing with the freq responce and bandpass to them. if done right youll get better responce out the speakers when placed in an enclosure. but depending of the vehicle the level of difficuly to build such enclosure will either increase, decrease or be imposible. and some speakers are actualy designed to be played as free air. so read the manufacturers specs.
