Speaker baffles?

Got a buddy of mine that went down to Parts Express today because one of the installers at Best Buy recc. he get these:

For starters, he has some Germaniums, and the installer told him to 'upgrade to something decent and namebrand like Sony.' I told him that should have been an indicator right there that the guy didn't know what he was talking about. My question is, did he waste his $$ or are these actually worth $8?

Almost every review complained about the speakers losing almost all midbass when using these unless you cut a huge hole in the back. I told him to get some Damplifier and seal the holes in the doors even with sheet metal if he needed to as long as he deadens the hell out of them. He's worried about the fact that he has 5x7 openings and is putting 6 1/2 in their place. He is currently using a metra 5x7 - 6 1/2 adapter plate made out of ABS plastic to attempt to take care of the gaps on the outside, then was told the baffles would make a huge difference in clarity.

Im getting a set of baffles only for water purposes. ATM water can drop and splash on the inside of my door and ruin the speaker (dont have it currently installed for this reason). You can buy those and cut a hole on the bottom.

Maybe the installer never heard of Rainbow but I wouldnt go to him again. I would ask the speaker forums or the dealer who sold your friend the set about clarity issues with the Germs.

Lol I wish I BB guy would tell me that bout my Germs, I would record the whole thing with my phone it'd be quite funny.
