speaker adaptors

I have an explorer, which uses 6x8s and I found some adaptors so I can run components. I'm not understanding how they work. I know you put them in the door but how can a 5.25" and 6.5" speaker go into the same adaptor? Better yet, how do you get a 6.5" in a 6x8 holes?
