sound deadener?

^^yes and no. It would be better but, do you know the quality of the product being used? After using several diff companys of products, i will never cheap out again. I love my cascade that im using, i would like to try second skin one day too though.

I've seen that second skin get's rave reviews but that's just too much for me to laydown and i'm not one of those people who have to have the best of the best of the best. On the flipside don't want cheap second rate crap that if i fart in my car and the temp changes the stuff falls apart (ala the posts about the edead stuff)
So is the RAAmat a good comprimise between price and effectiveness?
Yes

I have both Second skin and FatMat in my car. Both do their jobs and to be honest, I am doing the rest of my car in the fatmat, such as the doors, and floors. I haven't had any problem with the fatmat and have been in 90 plus degree weather for days at a time.

Yes, Secondskin is probably the best, but RAAmat is an excellent choice as well too. If you have a little money, hit up the SS, if not to save a little, do RAAmat. If you are on a tight budget, hit up fatmat.........if you a broke ***......do peel and seal. They say fatmat and peel and seal are the same, which I disagree after helping a friend lay some down in his trunk a couple weeks ago. FatMat seems thicker and easier to use.

This what i'm trying to find out, Someone who has used Fatmat recently and not the old asphalt stuff and to get opinions on that.

It's great if someone buys 1 product and it works and they say it the best stuff ever made but never used anyhting else. (not saying that what is being said here but a lot of people do this) That sound dead showdown is great but it's dated and hard to compare products now vs then. I'm sure the top of the line stuff is still at the top of it's game, I just want to hear from people who have used Fatmat or R-blox recently and what they feel about it now. (just like 3 years ago edead was ok and now there being killed in posts everywhere how the stuff sucks and it melts etc etc)

I've never used any of them, hence why I want opinions on all products and why people feel they ****. I could go out tomorrow get handed a sheet of crap put it in my car and think it was the best ever cause I never used anything else.

That's my point that was updated 3 years ago in 2005. We are in 2008, hasn't products changed? Like I mentioned earlier, I've seen Fatmat refered to as Asphalt based where now they are advertising it as rubberised butyl. So would that change the effectiveness of their product now as compared to 2005 when it was asphalt based?
The only products that have changed are the eDeads. FatMat is Peel & Seal (asphalt), no matter what their advertising claims. RAAMmat is the cheapest of the decent brands. Second Skin, Cascade, Dynamat Xtreme, Hushmat are all good, but more expensive.

Second Skin FTWFW hands down. No questions asked. best you can buy. THE BEST.There's a website somewere showing its heat resistance and thermal insulation abilities and acoustil deading. Or something like that. Any way. its the best.
I do respect your opinion and have used a number of SS products, but until they can qualify and quantify their results with some sort of test data, then your statement is just a matter of opinion, not fact. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For the majority of most car audio dudes, the "best" is the highest performing product for the money. It seems Damplifier Pro, Dynamat Extreme, and VMax are the highest performing "deadeners" on the forum as they have none or very few complaints from users. They cost more because they are made from higher quality materials (for the most part.)

It seems RAAMmat has had some inconsistencies over it's evolution which may attract criticism. For me, it was very tar-like to work with and I'm not sure why a true butylene rubber product would have this. DE is also slightly toward this end IME as well. After a couple years on my doors the butyl has gone slightly gooey, but still has maintained it's overall integrity. DE and VMax, on the other hand, have remained just as they went down.

I think this is all relavant because in order for a VE damping product to work, it must maintain a VE bond to the surface. I don't know how the damping performance changes if the damping layer goes bad, but I can't imagine that it would improve. That said, there are many so called "sound deadeners" on the market that make bogus claims that aren't worth it in the long run. It seems PRICE is the best way to spot an effective VE deadener, really.

.........if you a dumbass......do peel and seal.
Fixed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Save the peal-n-seal for pealing and sealing - say for instance if you need to repair a gutter on your house.

I like eDead. I used it on my whole truck and on my bro's whole ***** Am. Its been on my Dakota for about 2-3 months and its been working great. Its been on my bro's ***** Am for over a year and its still holding up fine. I live in New Mexico so its freaken hot over here and it hasnt affected my truck and my bros TA. I hope this helps.
