someone please fix my settings

ok, so i got my box in (1 cu ft tuned to 40hz, downfiring console box) and finally got everything installed (dd 1508 (single 4 ohm) hooked up to an orion 1200d, seeing about 425 rms) the problems are this:

on certain songs when I turn it up past a certain level, the sub makes a weird noise and its something you can def hear over the music, like the sub is bottoming out. I tried playing with my h/u and amp settings and this is what I have so far:

h/u (jensen 9512)

sub cutoff is it 80 (out of possible 50hz/80/hz/100hz and 200hz)

everything else is at 0, no bass boost or anything turned up

amp (orion 1200d @ 4 ohms)

low pass filter is at 250 (maxed out, it's the only thing that makes it sound anything like remotely good).

my high pass filter is off

gain is about 1/2 ways up

phase is at 180 (switched to 0 and nothing changed)

slope is at 12 out of possible off/12/24 (changed this and nothing changes)

now on certain songs, it sounds decent but i never get that "satisfying bass", there are little or no lows on lil waynes "lollipop" but his "a milli" hits pretty good, i know it's not a defective sub, and the box is not the problem either, so im pretty sure i have some of my settings off....thanks again guys, any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your box is tuned too high for your (& your subs) liking. Set your subsonic filter to 30-35 Hz.

If your amp doesn't have a SSF, build a new box tuned in the low 30's or sealed.

too high for the music you may be trying to play.

if you are trying to play too low of a tone, it is possible that you are unloading the driver

If it has a SSF set it @~30

if it doesn't

set the HPF @~30

if it doesn't get that low, see my 1st post

set the LPF @~80-110

& unless the sub is inverted, set the phase @ O°

what settings do you have available?

can you set rca's to sub/mids?

if yes, then maybe check they are set to sub

Even the guys on the DD forum told me that I should look to tune my enclosure @ 35 Hz instead of 40.

Another issue you run into with the 1508 is that you have a slightly longer than usual break in time because of the extra stiff suspension.

One of these days I am going to get the opportunity to put my 1508s to use:

ok, so I changed my settings, it helped a little bit but it still sounds bad. I didn't make a vid but the best way I can describe it is it sounds like strong mid bass but with a loud "scratch/thud" noise. I tried several songs like "lollipop" by lil wayne which is usually a stonr bass song and theres almost no bass, I tried lil waynes "pump that bass" and it's even worse. Honestly the only way to describe the way it hits is like strong midbass.

I've seen where people tune their 8's to 40hz, but do they enjoy zero bass?!?!? I honestly cant see why anyone would buy any 8's if this is anywhere remotely close to what people want their systems to sound like. I understand im coming from 2 pioneer 3004 spls but this is emberassing. My sub was $150 and the box was $275, I could have gotten some wal mart subs and a cheap pos amp and it would slaughter this........What should I do? Im this close to cutting my back wall, buying a bed cover and throwing my pioneers back in.
