Someone in the area this late..

First of all. Shut the hell up no-body cares what you have to say.
You live in a wealthy area with thugs walking around and you walking outside dangling your gun in the air? hahahah...dude just keep typing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

does NOT matter if you have your carring liscence, if someone see's it and reports it the cops will look into it. carring it for home protection is one thing, carring it out on the street for some thug in the area, wont go well with the cops

Pfft.

Having a valid, current concealed-carry permit is specifically what allows the permit holder to carry pretty much any durn where they please so long as it isn't in one of the exceptions where nobody but a sworn peace officer may possess a firearm of any kind (bank, school, any government-owned property whether that gov't be federal, state, or local...etc)

I was in the grocery store one afternoon - wearing my .45 as usual...and apparently my overshirt shifted sufficiently that some old lady in the frozen food aisle noticed that I was wearing a piece.

She went up to the front of the store and informed the manager who in turn called the cops.

Before I was even done shopping I was approached by 2 local cops looking like they thought there might be fixing to be some static.

I was asked if I was carrying a gun and when I told them yes they asked did I have the proper permit allowing me to do so legally.

Again I said yes.

They asked to see the permit and informed me that it would be in my best interest to move slowly and deliberately (sp?) to retrieve it from my wallet.

After they verified that my permit was valid they apologized for bothering me and went on their merry way.

If you have a proper permit there isn't jack that the cops can do about your having it provided you weren't threatening anyone with it or any such silliness.

The entire purpose of HAVING a CCW permit (as they are known here - Concealed Carry Weapon) is to allow the permit holder to carry a firearm wherever they choose so long as it isn't in violation of one of the excepted locations such as illustrated above.

Additionally - if I were to notice that there was someone who decidedly did not belong in my neighborhood out wandering around I would likely go outside to check it out myself. I do not know if I would choose to immediately make it known that I was carrying as opposed to keeping that information to myself until such a time that it was warranted for anyone else to know - but I'm not the OP.

Difference in methods but achieving the same results...

You're a moron.

The law here states that if the business in question makes a pretty high percentage of their overall gross sales (like 50%, I think) from the sale of alchohol then you may not carry a weapon within.

The store in the above story doesn't apply - they sell beer but not very much of it as there is a Thrifty Liquor store within 3 blocks...

Wow....I never been to a grocery store that didn't sell beer.

I figured beer went along with eggs, grits, milk, bread, beef, veggies etc that every grocery store would stock.

I seen some gas stations in KY sell both liquor and beer.

In TN it is either/or

In FL, they sell mad dog 20/20 at Wal-Mart

Can you quote it for me in my sentence where I went out side with a gun dangling in the air? I said I went outside with the gun, and it let him know or scared him off. That could have been in my holster? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Next I can carry a gun wherever I want whether it be in my house or in the mall. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

And to get at you again, the crime rate in the more costier neighborhoods in the city has more car break-ins then any area around here. How do I know? I'm a retired cop. 6 months ago, the richest area in the city, Deer Field, had 36 car break-ins in one night to let you know how that went down. Stolen cd players, purses, wallets, and everything you can think of. The wealthy area's aren't always safe. What stupid person is going to go still in the ghetto and take nothing but trash? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

No - the post of your that I originally responded to - well, the last statement of that post is what made me respond at all, where you said 'carrying out on the street for some thug in the area, won't go well with the cops.'

In my experience, so long as you have not committed a crime of any kind, if you have a gun and someone calls the cops about it, so long as you are properly licensed the cops simply do not care. Like I very plainly posted previously - the cops only cared because they thought some random person was wandering around wearing a gun. As soon as they verified that said random person (me) held a valid and current permit allowing such an action their level of concern for that happening immediately went to less than none. It didn't "not go well with the cops' in my case - it went just fine, tyvm.

Then you would also know it is far cheaper to mitigate those risks using financial instruments rather than trying to overcome them with a hand gun.

For instance, my audio system is fully documented and insured with my insurance agency. He has all the serial numbers, copies of reciepts, etc.

So, if a person breaks into my car, it's fully covered. I don't have to fight anyone, I don't have to risk getting shot or beat up. i just call the police and my insurance company.

I handgun would only be useful in the event of home invasion where he was going to cause harm to you or a loved one. You can protect assets with risk mitigation

And this is post 8,500
