Some questions on Alpine gear..

I've got an ipod that I want to hook up to my stereo, right now I've got a tape adapter for my 90 Cherokee, it works, but it's a pain in the *** and the sound quality sucks. I'm trying to get a new car this summer, but I don't have a job at the moment, either way, I'm gonna gear these questions to be more generic so they'll work either way.

First off, I've heard from a few people that Alpine's ipod interface goes completely to hell if you have over a certain number of songs on your ipod, I think they said 255 or so, rediculous, I'm edging at 10,000...300 won't cut it. Anyone have experience with the adapters and can say otherwise?

If I do get a new car, I'm thinking about tossing in an in-dash touch screen and getting a navigation system. The question here, Alpine's nav system is like 1700 dollars, a hell of a lot more than I have to spend, will generic nav systems work with Alpine's deck for less?

Last (for now) do any of you have experience running an Alpine touch screen with their ipod adapter? I'd like to dig up some more details on it before I buy.

You might want to look into a carputer... I know Alpine is supposed to have some of the best decks available, but with a carputer you would be able to sync up with an iPod without any problems, be able to wirelessly transmit your mp3s from your PC to your car while @ home, have as high or higher fidelity sound and it would cost you about a grand less than the Alpine nav system. Downside is there can be a fair amount of work involved, but some of that is optional.

Anyway, this is what I am considering, so check http://www.mp3car.com.

Hmm...Looks pretty interesting, I'll look at it a bit more when I have some more time, thanks for bringing it up. I'm not a huge Windows fan though, and really don't need/want the extra hassle of having a full on computer in my car. Again, I'll check it out, because cheaper is always better.

I think the main question I want to know is if Alpine's HU's have an Alpine-specific adapter, or if I can get a generic nav unit and save some money. If it is just a universal adapter between manufacturers, where can I get a cheaper nav unit?
