Some Qs about active setup

I bought a new car. It is very small and it has no place to install door drivers. I have an old 3 way component from Infinity CS1A, ribbon tweeters, 4" mid high driver and 6x9 midbass drivers. My first attemp was putting the 4"s at the dash, A pillar mounted tweeters and 6x9 at the back panel plus a sub in the trunk. I powered the system with a RF 4 channel amp.

I was dissapointed with the results because the mid bass are playing too high frecuencies and the overall imaging was bad.

My next attemp was putting custom door panels with 6.5 drivers, keeping the factory crossover. 6x9 were out of the ecuation. Well, the system now images decently but I was still looking for something better.

I'm now thinking on using an active setup. I get an MTX 3 way Xover and another two channel amp. So, 3 way comps, 6 amped channels and the 3 way xover. Which way to go?

I'm two channels short for a full active setup so i will have to play a bit with the available resourses.

My first plan is:

1- running the tweeters from the HU front channel thru the component factory crossover. This will give me some gain control from the fader.

2- back channel to the xover (18db/oct slopes). First HP at 200 to the 4", BD 80-200 to the 6.5 and LP 80 to the sub.

Any comments?

Thanks

did your component set come with a passive crossover? i couldnt tell in your post.

regardless, my suggestion is finding a high quality amp(s), preferably two. If you run active you may need to buy several amps of varying power etc for different components.

I would build kickpanels to house the 6.5 and 4" drivers on the same axis for better imaging.

I don't know too much about the ribbon tweets, however, I understand that ribbon tweeters have a very directional axis, so i would suggest placing these on the a pillar, spend a lot of time adjusting position and crossover points with these as they are supposed to be relatively picky drivers.

If you find evidence that ribbon tweeters can be placed elsewhere with success I would make the kickpanels house the 4" midrange and put the tweeters in the kicks within close proximity. then custom door panels with the 6.5 inch drivers aimed at around your dome roof light.

do some research on ribbon tweets and find out which of these to options would be better. I would love to have some nice ribbon tweeters to play with.
