Soldering speaker wire

I couldn't figure out how the heck to get 12 ga wire to my CDT midrange speakers, so i soldered on the 12ga to the terminals. The holes were so small, I couldn't bend 'em or anything.

Soldering should be just fine right? It's a tight connection.

On another note, my CDT crossover is well. I haven't tried it out yet, but the chip inside is slightly chipped in the corner. Could that be a problem? It just looked like a silicon chip with nothing on top or on the bottom.

If you used 18gauge and then switched to 12 gauge, you would not hear hear the difference.

I like 16gauge for components, works great, what your doing is a waste of time and money as it won't sound any better.

12 gauge is overkill for most subs, let alone speakers ... 14 gauge at most, 16 gauge is more than adequate for the majority of speakers ...
And, because you soldered your speakers, you just killed their resale value //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Ha, yea I already ran the ****in 12ga all through the car and i wasn't about to take it apart now...

You could've just stripped down the 12 gauge to a size that would fit at the very end //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

very true...just cut some strands and let it fit

Do you think that there is any benefit to replacing the factory speaker wire?
