i went into bestbuy ang got myself a Pioneer P7700MP just to test it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif, since this is going to be my 1st ever deck, ive been running stock units with line out converters always!

so i thought its about time i get a real deck!

i wanted something that looks a little OEM, obviuosly not the 7700!

now, i like 'almost' everything about this deck, i love how how the EQ and everything works, how the mp3 and file choosing works, but i dont like the BLUE! my cars colours are black, and green as the stock lights for everything, so i wanted a deck with green lights, so it blends in with the car and doesnt look unusual!

so basically, apart from that i really like the 7700, and ive been doing some research and can't make up my mind.. my choices include:-

Pioneer P7700MP

Pioneer P80MP

Pioneer P8600MP

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X889

JVC KD-SHX750\850 \ Arsenal KD-AR7500\KD-AR8500

Panasonic MXE CQ-C9801U\ CQ-CB8901U

Alpine CDA-9855

please give me your opinions, what u recommend and why!

thanks soo much

Pioneer 7700 - NO it has a sort of cheap look and you said you didn't like it.

Pioneer P80 - Well, its a nice unit but I would suggest the Premier equivalent over this one.

Pioneer 8600 - I have an 860 myself and its a very nice head unit.

Excelon 889 - I've heard only great reviews on this one. Fact is that Kenwood had soooo many bad years that no one takes them seriously anymore. Fact is that their top Excelon units are more than worthy.

Panasonic - I have No experience with these but i've also heard good things. I do know their features and specs are on par with some units in the upper echelon.

JVC - I have NO experience or do I know much of anything about their head units. I'm not saying they're necessarily crap but they don't have much of a rep at all. Even less than Kenwood has.

Alpine 9855 - Well I can say I have heard this deck but only momentarily. I can say that this deck isn't for the avg user. The glide touch is something that even most Alpine fans are NOT fond of. As far as sound, features and specs its more than capable. Alpine decks historically do NOT have high voltage pre outs so if that is something you NEED then stay clear of Alpine.

Hope that helped a little atleast.

i can comment on the panasonic and excelon.

panasonic: great bang for the buck and entry HU

Excelon: MAJOR sound quality upgrade from the panasonic. i dont know why more people run these things. the crossover selections are freakin awesome, and it has the g-analyzer, major plus //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would have to say that they got a really bad rep over the years and most of the consumer confidence isn't there.

i am not really into the panasonic decks anyway to tell you the truth, and i will stay away from them, they are not going to be part of my choices, i just wanted to see some feedback on them, because i really liked the motorized plate on them at the store //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif haha

and it seems you guys say good stuff about the kenwwod, im leaving that on my list,

the 7700 isnt bad at all, but there are a few things that bug me, like when choosing a song from the list of mp3's on the cd, after choosing the song, and going back to change the song, the highlighted song on the list goes back to the first song on the cd... im not sure if u get what im trying to say, and another thig is that when i go back to choose the son, i have to go back into each folder and subfolder again just to get to the folder im already playing... hopefully u understand what i mean, but its not important, just a little thing thats buggining me...

i just got the 7700 yesterday to tell you the trth and ive played around with it alot, and found it alright, but i will not stick with it, i will take that off the list, and add the Premiere P8 instead, i will also keep the P8600 since adam said its a nice unit...

so right now, i guess my choices are:-

Pioneer P8MP Premiere

Pioneer 8600MP (being over 2 years old is buggining me)

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X889

JVC KD-SHX750\850 \ Arsenal KD-AR7500\KD-AR8500 (Want to look more into these)

what about alpines? anything else good from alpine that seems to match my needs?

Hold out til this coming spring then. Pioneer may have a new model out. I wouldn't let the fact that its 2 years old bother you, its pretty much compatible to any format. XM, Sirius, CD, CDR, Mp3, WMA.

but like I said if you want something really fresh just wait til spring. I heard Pioneer was supposed to have some new models seeing how the 2 top units (960 and 860) didn't change this past year.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

you can never go wrong with an Alpine they are the best of the best
Based on what? I would love to hear how you came to this conclusion.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
