So I got into an accident today...**UPDATE**

misdemeaner my ***. Call the DA and demand some felony charges or you will go to the press. Seriously though, DA's are all about the PR.
If current legislation on the books in his locale only support a misdemeanor charge for a Hit&Run (it is only a misdemeanor here as well excepting if the result of said Hit&Run was extreme injury and/or fatality) then threatening to go to the press will serve only to (a) make you look foolish and (b) make certain that from that point forward the DA will not take you seriously as most public officials don't respond well to baseless threats.

If the law only supports/calls for a certain level of punishment for the crime do you really think they're going to care about your demands for a stiffer penalty? I wold suggest not...

sucks that you got rear ended ... sucks that you got some injuries .. but what doesnt **** is that they are gonna get arrested and go through all the hassle of court and etc .. just because they didnt stop to give their insurance info.

Actually, I was referring to Under (or Un-) Insured Motorist Protection.

That being, if the person that hit you is un- or under-insured (can't cover the costs of your medical, etc) then you are covered by your policy.

Well here's a small update:

went back to the ER today as the pain has worsened, and they didn't do much...6 hours in the ER and nothing...wasted my time.

My father called the police to get an update and they told him they dropped the case because there were 'no leads'. My dad told them if physically having the license plate, and an eyewitnesses statement aren't leads, then what the **** is?!?!? Cop hung up on him. Called back and got a sargeant on the phone, who told my dad that the computers were down and to call back later.

Just got off the phone with my good friend who happens to be a NYPD officer, and he told me he'll give me a call when he gets out of work and the next time he's off we'll head down to the precinct together to reopen the case.

I'm supposed to meet with the lawyer tomorrow but we might have to reschedule. We told him what happened with the case being closed and he said doesn't matter, we have plenty of evidence to take them to court and get some compensation from them.
