So I got in this 120 MPH race after bar close.........2000 SSEi vs 2010 Mustang GT

Auto's certainly do have a pause. The pause is in the form of gear slippage in the ****** as the fluid transfers from one gear to another. In fact, its that slippage (loss of power to the wheels) that actually gives an automatic its smooth feel as it shifts. Do you think top fuelie drag cars use this type of transmission? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Serious race cars run manual transmissions. Even the ones who shift gears without the driver's input (automatically) are simply manual trannys with an electronic shifting system, which is a far cry from the automatic in your car. Even serious street cars like the best corvettes, ferraris and porsches use manual transmissions. Inexplicable if what you suggest about auto's is true.
Ride with someone who knows how to power shift their manual transmission, and your opinion will change forever.
Top Fuel dragsters do not use a transmission....they use staged clutches.....

They are a single speed, multiple staged clutch that stages automatically. This is Top Fuel only.

But of all of the FASTEST dragsters, automatics do take the cake.

You ****** whining about which ***** is better need to take into account the actual model of ***** and vehicle. There's a power difference between how much actually gets put to the wheels between the two. Certain slushbox autos will transfer 5-8% less power than a manual to the wheels. Also don't forget the different gear ratios between the two. It's not as easy as guessing which shifts faster.

I dont know why you keep implying I dont know much about cars. When I bought my first chevelle, you were probably still playing with spongebob coloring books. I guess since I disagree with you on this topic, I must not be a gear head.
To start with, I'm probably older than you, or at least your age, so dont try that crap with me. I am not saying that you are not a "real gearhead" but you are very mistaken with your view on transmissions in the drag race environment. Autos have been the way to go since the 60's, ever since they were able to get those things shifting with a snappy shift. AGAIN, I also love a big block with a stick behind it, but I also know that the fsatest drag cars use a transmission that is closer to an auto, than a stick, or even started life as an auto. I also dont get where you say that big blocks only use 1 gear out of a PG, the reason to use a 2spd is because there is only 1 shift, rather than 2 in a 3 spd..... have to break for some baby taking care of, Ill be back in a few hours.

agreed 100 percent but i think the sweetest shifter's are them sequential shifters where there is like 4 to 5 separate shifters to pull in a line

Still, the majority of the fastest cars in professional drag racing are automatics. The are not the same auto as you will find in a street beater.

You can say that there is a lag between gears in an auto and this is true but there is also a lag in between gears with a manually shifted ****** as well.

In the end, a purpose built auto will shift faster vs a manual.

And again, Top Fuel dragsters do not use a ******.....

well.... if you guys wanna get technical a paddle shifter is the fastest transmision made to date. It litterly takes nano seconds to shift gears while the modern slap sticks and clutch systems take a lot longer to shift.. lol but paddle shifters are for rich euro *** holes
