So I got in this 120 MPH race after bar close.........2000 SSEi vs 2010 Mustang GT

hehehe ignorance! join a BOnneville forum and learn.. I was Site recruiter for Bonnevilleforum and GMForum.. a Stock SSEi, GTP, Ultra, GSS, and the like with a SC 3800 will beat a v8 mustang from stop light to stop light. little known fact. If its a 5 sp Stang he will get the jump and can pull away a bit. a smaller sc pulley from ZZP on that 3800 and that 5 speed 4.6 or 5.0 with a ****** driver with good traction cant pull away
You are so full of crap that you squeak going into a turn. A) just because you were a "site recruiter" doesnt mean anything. B) obviously you bench race and never get out there, and on top of that, simple newtonian physics are apparently beyond you. Your statement about the 5 sp getting the jump is beyond stoopid. Any real dragracer knows that an automatic ***** is the quickest on the track, no pause between shifts. C) The reason its a "little known fact" is because it never happens. 4000 lb car with 240-260 hp and around the same torque compared to a 3300 lb car with 350 hp and roughly the same torque. Wonder which one will win? I guess on your wooptiedoo bonneville forum, your tunaboat will win, but only after you ate ten mushrooms, smoked a half pound of weed, and dropped ten hits of acid each.

Have a nice day!

Auto's certainly do have a pause. The pause is in the form of gear slippage in the ****** as the fluid transfers from one gear to another. In fact, its that slippage (loss of power to the wheels) that actually gives an automatic its smooth feel as it shifts. Do you think top fuelie drag cars use this type of transmission? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Serious race cars run manual transmissions. Even the ones who shift gears without the driver's input (automatically) are simply manual trannys with an electronic shifting system, which is a far cry from the automatic in your car. Even serious street cars like the best corvettes, ferraris and porsches use manual transmissions. Inexplicable if what you suggest about auto's is true.

Ride with someone who knows how to power shift their manual transmission, and your opinion will change forever.

You ever heard of shift kits and modded automatics? Why do you think that the fastest drag cars run an auto or semi auto ******? Manuals are great, I prefer them myself, but a full race prepped auto ***** has NO pause between shifts at all. even a powershifted stick still has a break, yes it may be measured in milliseconds, but it is there. Also, powershifting is very hard on a ******. Full race auto OTOH use either slap shifters, or a multi lever shifter aka "lightning rods", where as you need a gear, you just move the next lever forward(or back), and it is an instant shift. That is how the big dragracers do it, and yes it at least started life as an auto ***** which got converted. Ask around to any REAL dragracers, there may even be a few here, you will see that if you are running 8's(1/4) or better 99% of the time it is an auto or semiauto transmission. I have heard of a very select few who have been able to get in the 6's with a stick but that is NOT the norm, and very, VERY hard to do.

Those 'semi auto' race trannys you are talking about, such as Lenco's, are nothing like the automatic in your car, and MUCH closer to a manual transmission. They use gears, not fluid. They shift mechanically, not by opening and closing valves. Those 'lightning rods' you are talking about, does virtually the exact same thing as power shifting a manual transmission, except you simply have a new shift lever for each gear to make avoiding missed gears easier. You keep talking about 'real drag racers', that is the type of shifter they use, not some fluid driven transmission like yours.

Again, why do you think high end sports cars, and even the old muscle cars, come/came with manual geared transmissions?

Heavy duty Powerglide with a competition shift kit over a manual any day. Automatics are better for turbo'd cars as well, can build up boost from a standstill.
Yeah powerglides are popular with the bigblock guys. I have people trying to buy one of mine all the time. You know how they usually run them? Single speed. No shifting. Bigblocks have a wide enough power band that this becomes possible. So yes, technically its a fluid driven automatic, but since it doesnt shift that becomes a non issue.

About time a gearhead dropped in, I was starting to feel all lonely and stuff!
I dont know why you keep implying I dont know much about cars. When I bought my first chevelle, you were probably still playing with spongebob coloring books. I guess since I disagree with you on this topic, I must not be a gear head.
