Smell of the subwoofer...

Sorry for this somewhat ignorant question, but im a newbie at car audio and was wondering....When I play my system I have new subs, and at high volume they tend to start smelling. Idk if this is just breaking in of the woofer or if its doing damage? If someone could help id appreciate it.

Well its not like im running too much power to them, the setup is 2 15" TC-2000'S powered by a Cadence ZRS-10 (2500RMS). I have the gains all the way down due to having 4guage power wire for now, so im thinking those subs are maybe getting 800RMS a peice?

Oh and its running at 1ohm.

Turn them up all the way and burn all the extra glue off for at least 1 hour. By Doing this you will increase output by at least 20%. And be sure to record it and post it on here.

j/k Dont do that.

You cannot guess at power output simply based on your gain being set at the lowest position. Depending on the strength of your h/u's signal, that could be allowing full output of the amplifier. Not likely, but possible. Your 800 watt guess is just that, a total guess.

clamp your out put with a DMM to figure it out and set yor gains propperly.

I would also recomend turning off your bass boost or loudness on your HU if they are on and let the raw power of the amp get those subs loud, should sound cleaner as well.

If you want to break in your subs suspension, ride around all day with a 22 hz tone on repeat. Make sure that the volume isn't too high because you don't want to bottom the sub out. It will not take much power for the sub to move. This is what I did. If your sub continues to smell, you may be getting the coil too hot.
