slot vs. aeroports

why is that when you use a aero port, you can go with such a smaller port area compared to a sloted?

i don't know if thats actually the practice, its just that its what i've been noticing people do...

If anything, most of the time people use much larger port displacements with slotted ports just to be on the safe side.... with aero ports you are constrained by the set 4",6" sizes and cost.

Slot is cheaper/easier to design into a box. Aero ports look different..... that's about it.

Aero's allow for better air flow and are good for small spl boxes.

Not really. There have been some tests that proved that a cylindrical port will create less resistance to turbulant air but it was a tiny ammount.

you have things backwards imo...you can use an aeroport over and over, while building a smaller box aswell as less wood...in the long run, aero's are cheaper.

idk why, but you dont need near the amount of port area with aero's as you do slot ports...

so I'm at PE and the aero ports are like a buck or two apeice? why is that considered so expensive

4" aeroports are like $12-16....youre looking at the wrong ones..a REAL 6" version will run ~$50-60

cool... I'm playing around with BB6P though and it wants a REALLY long (little over a foot) 4" flared tube.. is that pretty normal? also which side should the port be on relative to the woofer? for a 25hz tuning?

That's not long at all. Seems the right length for 25hz. Mine are going to be about 18 inches long.

could the port come out on the side of the box with the woofer on the front or top? firing into the side of the vehicle...
