slot vs. aeroports

could the port come out on the side of the box with the woofer on the front or top? firing into the side of the vehicle...

Yeah.

My Rl-p's will be mounted on top, with the ports facing the passenger side.

also if you have a car you can put areos with only the bottom in the box and the top coming through the back deck where slotted is a lot harder to design that away.

yea aeros look good to if you fiberglass the outside. looks real good.

well yeah, i noticed for example the type r 12, if you use a round port, they recommend a 4 inch, which is 12.56 sq inch, they recommend a 1.5x12 slot port which is 18 sq inches for the slot...

going with a smaller port area allows you to shorten the port lenght but wouldn't that cause more port noise?

That's why there flared. I have a 12" Punch HX2 with a 4"x11" aeroport. I get very very little port noise at really high volume. Not to bad. But I think it sounds better then the old slot box I had them in. If I would do it again I would go with a 6" aeroport.

yeah i know they are flared...but does that mean then that being flared will automaticly take away most of the port noise and associates with small round ports and it makes equivalent to larger slot ports?

Does anybody know why JL recommends slot ports for thier subs?

Well, I wouldn't say it will automatically take away the port noise. But they will let you get by with less port area before port noise becomes audible.

BB6P is driving me nuts... it's trying to tell me the TC2+ wants a 5cu ft sealed box for a Q of .7 and then when I try to edit the box dimensions it keeps making up numbers and fiddling with what I already entered.... grrr...

and I want a bigger port around to avoid port noise? do I need to go bigger than 3"?
