Slight problem

Got my nvx vcw 12 hooked up yesterday at local shop and I was playing it and out of nowhere it cut out and immediately cut back on. I was playing it loud and gain was roughly half way. No bass boost or anything . The sub seems very stiff and makes a rubbing noise when I evenly press dowm the middle of the sub. It's powered by a pioneer 9601.

If its a blown coil would it be covered under warranty ? Sub is a week old and only been hooked up a day

Check all your connections.. i.e. the subwoofer inputs on the sub and also from the box, a terminal could be slipping on and off when on the road. next check the rca's. When your bumping and it shuts off, is it the whole amp? does it go into protect? because if its not that, then it has to be the wiring to the sub. If the amp goes into protect, you might have it wired wrong (impedance) or its drawing too much power

test the impedance with a DMM and if its reads fine, the coil isn't blown

It's wired at 1 ohm. At first I had the gain all the way down turned it to half way and it cut out then half a second later back on. Im thinking it's coil rub because even when pushing down evenly it makes a noise and is stiff

I've never had a sub with coil rub so i can't say for sure, but, that doesn't make sense to me why it would completely cut in and out. that sounds like a connection issue or your amp can't handle 1 ohm and its going into protect. Its normal for a sub to be stiff brand new.. but it shouldn't be making a noise. how bad is the noise? scratchy?

Pretty scratchy and the amp is 1ohm stable.

Im thinking the amp maybe clipped and cut it off and right back on. But idk why the amp would clip with the gain set half way

Gain halfway seems high, but not enough to really damage a high powered woofer like that. The woofer is definitely done for though. Sounds as if you were a little too aggressive on the volume knob, or the box is too large for the woofer, or a combination of both. Either way take it back to the shop.

It's a small box around .9 net. But thing is sub sounds fine when playing. What noise would it make when playing if the coil was rubbing

It would be a scratching sound.
