Ski Boat: Looking for 12" on ~$100 Budget (600 Watts Available)

So looking at adding a sub to my 2002 Stingray 200lx Ski Boat. Have a spare Cadence TXA3002 sitting around that I will likely donate to the cause. Thus, we have 600 watts at 4 ohms (bridged) available...

This means we're looking for a single 4, or dual 2 (or 8) ohm woofer. I'd prefer a cone/surround that can handle a bit of the elements. Preferably aluminum cone, rubber surround (or similar).

My original thought was Alpine Type E as I've had one before on lower wattage that sounded good, but unsure how it would handle this power at high volumes to boot. My second thought (and still leaning towards) is a Phoenix Gold RSD 12. These just don't seem to be everywhere like they used to be and those that are around seem to be more expensive than I remember.

Likely have 1 cube sealed to work with... could come up with more if someone can justify it. Thinking sealed with a resin to make water proof.

Any other ideas from the forums? Also, if anyone has pictures of their boat installs, I would love to see them!

Thank you

I keep reading Dcon on other threads as a good budget woofer... How would it like 600 watts? Cone/surround material?

Also did consider IB and cutting a hole in hull; just not sure if I have the balls to cut into it.

More woofer recommendations would be great!

Would like to pull the trigger on something today. Let's see the criteria again:

1. 12"

2. 600 watts

3. Performs well sealed

4. Prefer aluminum (or similar cone)

5. Prefer rubber (or similar surround)

Please offer up opinions. I'm willing to move forward with DCON, but would prefer a different cone/surround than it has. I could go with PG RSD, but would like other opinions. Please and thank you

You own a ski-boat and have a budget??? GTFO
Because I own a boat, is why I have a budget //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

dayton HO or dayton ref?
Considered it.. and I'm starting to thing the surround/cone material isn't as important as I thought it may be.. as long as I face the woofer where it will always be out of the sun, I likley won't have a problem. Is partsexpress still the place to get Dayton?

yes sir. they are great drivers and go great in sealed enclosures

If you want more output you should definitely go ported instead of sealed. You can get smooth response from ported too you know. If you didn't need the surround/cone material requirement, I have a sub that would do great for ya.

well you dont want water going into the port so thats why he's doing sealed.

and op, its hard finding a sub for 100$ that has 600 rms. and its a boat, your not going to get very loud becuase there is open air and nothing to bounce off of. i think you can plenty loud with that dayton in a boat. 600 watts is 600 watts no matter how you look at it.
