Ok, well i have a 10 year old black lab that has been having a major issue w/ scratch, biting and licking for the past two years. We have been to our local vet dozens and dozens of times. He states that its a common problem with labs but i cant stand to see her in pain. She itchs all day almost, barrly gets any sleep because she itchs so bad. She has itched, scratched and chewed atleast 30% of her hair off and has sores from doing so. Any one here ever had this problem? Any vets that could share insite? We have tryed everything it seems and nothing seems to work, or even remotly help.

Thanks

Corey

im not vet (really though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif) but i had a female doberman who had a problem like this for almost a year, she just kept biting the skin on her hind area, and she was almost completely bald around that area and her tail as well as horribly irritated. it used to drive her crazy and she would do it at various times in the day...turned out it was her diet, she was allergic to most dog foods, so i got her some of the iambs allergy food, and it was fine after that...could or could not be the same thing...sounds similar...

You need to give the doggy ivermectin once a day orally and the dose is dependant on the animals weight. It should clear her up in about 2 months of use, but the pricetag on the shit is expensive - almost $200 a bottle and it lasts right at 2 months of use. Its actually a cattle wormer but it works on dogs in getting rid of those mites. Its a common problem, dont be embarrased.

here read about the use of ivermectin....you're not supposed to use it in hearding dogs, but I have a Austrailian shepard and I have no problems with the shit, other than the dog getting a little too relaxed sometimes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif But at least she doesnt get into anything.

No its not realy like mange. They also said it might be allergies. Its just her skin gets red and starts to itch (realy bad i would assume) so she scratchs, bites and licks her self until there its litteraly no hair left and all that is left is a bloody sore. Im going to go take some pictures.
