Si BM Proto Arrives for testing ( PICS )

why not test it in a car with the rear seats not able to fold down........ i think everybody would like a worst case scenario with good/above average results //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
The situation couldn't have been worse for the proto: The sealed 10" proto had a big MDF box loaded with down-firing woofers in front of it with about a 2" by 30" area to fire through to the locked-in-place rear seats and then continue to the cab. Pretty crappy really.

reason why i dont test in a trunk w/o seats folded down

plain and simple i like hearing the driver and not the acoustics of the trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

id rather listen to the driver with as little outside interference as possible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Definitely. Remove as many variables as possible.

I don't see what all the fuss is about the frame; it's functional and looks good enough to me.

Oh yeah, you were talking about Chad's test. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For ours, it was worst-case scenario. But if done the way we usually do it, it would have been done in a hatchback with everything folded down / out of the way because, like Chad said, we like to listen to the driver without a lot of things that can color the sound.

das cool. i only asked, cause of course, the rear seats in my maxima don't fold down, only that little armrest thing does.

Direct sales work for companies who want to deal with the end consumer. Si has chosen a dealer based model, you may be suprised, but both Si and Sundowns main sales are done in brick and morter shops //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

SI makes some nice stuff, why dont they deal direct ?Seems like a bad move to me,unless they dont want to

earn alot of money.I was going to buy a MAG untill I got hassled.
Who did you get hassled by?

B&M can be a very good method of sales for the company and for the customer. For the customer, it presents a dedicated sales team that is familiar with the product and has the time to support problems and questions. For the company, they can focus on product development and let someone else handle the sales end. Seems vastly preferrable, to me anyways.

Update:

I listened to this baby a little bit this weekend, power from a sundown 1500d with gains set conservatively. It was in a .7 cube sealed box. My music ranged from the lighthearted banjo strings of folk music, the hardcore double bass drums of linkin park and disturbed. I also through in some lil jon to test the low end extension.

Notes:

With the folk music the sub stage blended nicely with the banjo strings in the front stage. It sounded very nice on this music. It very accurately reproduced anything it was asked to.

With the rock music i listened to, my favorite for daily listening personally, the bm suprised me with its output on this music. It was not muddled at all unlike many drivers asked to do this. I am considering putting a single 10 in my daily driver to replace the jbl 8 that is in there now. thats how much i liked this driver.

With the very light selection of rap music I played in this configuration the driver sounded as good as something can sound on rap, lets be honest 30-40hz sweeps/tones arent a true test of a drivers sound. I did find the driver struggling to produce notes below 35 hz. I believe this is due to the small sealed enclosure. This should easily be remedied with a ported alignment. My personal listening tastes prefer an exagerated low end which would explain my thoughts on this portion of the test. I'm sure that the average sq guru would have been appeased with the sound here.

SPL test and Ported box testing shall happen this week.

Thanks

Chad

I think I like the basket...something different in the least! The added benefits sound very good, I'll be looking forward to picking one of these up! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

(When they go on sale obviously!)
