Si BM Proto Arrives for testing ( PICS )

I do have to agree with you there...
Even though I am a 'basket hater'. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
I'll tell you this much... I'm very tempted to run a pair of these in my Civic after auditioning this one. My dual 10" vented box would slam HARD with two of those on my SAX-100.2 bridged. That is IMO, of course, since I run a pair of my 10" SD-1s now and they are more than enough bass for me daily... but man, this new BM is an even smoother sounding sub than the SD-1 -- and that is pretty impressive since I love how those SD-1s sound on low-power.

Some people may find the above statements funny knowing that my "other" vehicle is in the 158 dB range *laughs* Of course... wearing ear plugs AND noise absorbing headphones that thing made my ears feel off for 3 days after a few burps.

I fully understand the not listening to something full out 100000dBs all the time. I am very much an SQ guy.

I am very interested in seeing how this driver pans out. I am sure it sounds fantastic and looking forward to seeing reviews and what not.

But, I still hate the basket, but if the driver does kick butt as you are saying then let it be as ugly as it needs to be... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Like Jake said, this driver is a prototype so not everything is perfect. The tp and bp will be taken care of on production. Also, the surround is a bit light right now but it will be dyed for production to bring it up to a charcoal/black color. The surround is a nice little piece, it's not wide at all really but still allows for all the movement we want.

There might be a boot cover and backplate cover for production so the look of the rear will increase 100%.

I'm going to call Chad in a little bit to see what he thinks because Jake and I both LOVE the way the driver sounds. It is insanely smooth, tight, and a low-end monster. For lower powered amplifiers this line of speaker is going to excell even more so than our current BM's. The new BM's are more efficient and go a lot lower than our current BM's. But the current BM's are monsters ported...so we'll have to see how this proto stacks up when ported, which is what Chad is for. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

People hate the basket, but I for one like it.

1) Its not the standard off the shelf 12 spoke

2) It provides mechanical advantages over the 12 spoke

3) The cooling vents are HUGE

No cone pixors yet, for the aformentioned reason that it is a proto.

Basket haters! *laughs*
I like the basket... but the fact of the matter is Nick didn't pick it for looks; he is using it since it has more mechanical clearance than a 12-spoke, offers better cooling, and allows the use of the carefully placed lead wires due to the taller clearance -- they won't slap until you exceed linear x-max by a substantial level. The higher clearance also allows for the removal of the triple joint and the creation of two separate joints to spread out the load a bit.

For that matter... it actually does look alot better when you have it in front of you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I personally did 2 hours of thermal testing on this little guy as well, and it passed with flying colors playing sine wave material for the entirety. Of course, the neatest thing about this driver is that it doesn't require a boat load of power to reach high x-max levels. It is also one of the smoothest sounding woofers I've ever personally listened to as Nick and myself auditioned it in my Civic with a mere 200 watts.

Low-end extension is stellar sealed... ported it would be a little beast, although Nick and I did not test that alignment yet -- Chad will likely do so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
why not test it in a car with the rear seats not able to fold down........ i think everybody would like a worst case scenario with good/above average results //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
