... Shuttle has a new PC for the car coming dubbed the CarPC, for uh, obvious reasons. The PC measures in at 279 x 230 x 70-mm and features the ability to automatically shut itself down gracefully when you turn off your vehicle...

maybe im missing something here but why exactly would one need a computer installed in one's car. I mean I have only used a computer in some to hook into an independant EMS to tune it and even then just used a laptop with a power inverter. Seems like needless equipment in my opinion.

Looks nice, but I bet it's MUCHO money. Core 2 Duo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

There's TONS of things you can do with a carputer. Before you ask why people need a computer in their car, ask yourself why people have flip outs.

The possibilities of a carputer are endless, and they are cheaper and better than flip outs. Music, movies, games, GPS, internet, etc. are the most common reasons.

I don't see why in the world you'd need a dual core processor in a carpc...

And yes, a CarPC is far beyond what any in-dash DVD unit can do, especially for the price.

Now, I don't know alot about capc's, but I'm not sure that statement's completely valid when you start getting into SQ. Don't you have to have very nice soundcards/programs to run a fine-tuned active setup via PC? Seems the cost would go up immensely there. Probably still cheaper than a h/u with a processor, but I couldn't imagine being a whole lot cheaper.

Still will agree. If I had to start over, I'd get a carpc. You get a lot of bang for the buck.

If you buy a soundcard with a DSP chip and ASIO support you can do crazy things.

I use the kX project sound card drivers for my card, they have the ability to digitally rewire your soundcard to direct any audio stream to any output on your card. You also get a digital 31 or 10-band EQ, full digital crossover capability, and digital time alignment. And the cost of this software : $0. In fact, it's open source. Try doing this with your Alpine processor.

wtf are we looking at here? ^

Basically what you are looking at is a digital representation of my soundcard. The FXbus is all the audio streams, and the Epilog represents the physical outputs of the soundcard. You can digitally rewire your soundcard any way you want. In my example, I have the stereo audio stream routed through a 10 band equalizier, then three different instances of it are outputed to a lowpass and two highpass filters, the lowpass goes to my sub, and the two highpass filters are for the front and rear channels, I just filtered out everything below 100Hz, because the sub plays 100Hz and down. So now the three channels on the back of my soundcard represent my front stage, rear fill, and subwoofer, all the audio processing and filtering is done, the signal just goes through to the amps without them having to do anything.
