should i try my sub sealed?

i have a Treo SSi 10" sub that i might like to try in a small sealed box. right now i have it in 1.75 net, 35hz, 22 sq inches of port. it is really really strong on the low end in the box it is in. i think i might be able to get better SQ from a small sealed box though. but i do not want to loose a lot of low end. this sub is an SQ sub but i don't think the box it's in is really optimized for SQ.

can anybody possibly make a frequency response chart showing a comparison of it in the box it's in now to a couple different sized sealed boxes?

thanks!

I wish I could help, but the only time I heard an SSi was at an audio shop and it was ported. I would say just build a sealed enclosure and try it out... it's only ~ $20 bucks and you can determine if that's the route you want to go. Good luck and let us know the results.

thanks man. i'm just trying to go more towards SQ and i figured it might sound better. might have a tighter, snappier sound. i'm playing with winisd and it's saying i will have an f3(-3db point) at 50hz if i do a .80cu ft box. why are THEY saying the f3 will be at 35hz then? i don't get it.

i dont know who told you its an sq sub because its not... and sealed will sound like *** and you will lose alot of output. if you want it to be more musical tune it to 40hz. 1.5cf. 24 sq. in. of port.

tune it to 40hz? i have heard a lot of people on forums call the SSi an SQ sub. 40 hz will sound better than 35 for music?

why would he tune that high for music? if anything i'd tune it much lower.

but to the OP, i'd go ahead and try a sealed box and see if you like the response. seems like you want more SQ out of your sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yes i want some good ol SQ. maybe this isn't the right sub for it. and i also know that my sub stage probably isn't the ideal setup for SQ. i thought 35hz was a lil high for a ported enclosure.

maybe i'll buy a different brand sub and do it in the right box.

I would rather throw that sub in a sealed box than put it in a box tuned to 40hz. I would personally stay below 35hz when it comes to having a ported box.

Everything I have read about the SSi was saying that it was an SQ sub, I personally would try it sealed cause I enjoy building stuff and not too hard to build a simple sealed box.

I have actually been contemplating lately purchasing a 10" SSi to compare with the Phoenix Gold RSD10d as they seem to be the best that I can fit in my truck and I can't find enough info to just make a decision.

If you do end up deciding to sell it let me know as I would be interested in trying it out, and I'm planning on small sealed if it will work.
