Should I port or seal my image dynamics idq's?

I currently have a 2 idq's in a sealed downfiring box and just am not 100% satisfied with it. They have about .95cu.ft. on each side. Some people have been telling me this is to big but the owners manual calls for 1.1 for audiophile, .75 universal, and .55 compact for sealed designs. I almost want to try them in a ported box just to see how they sound. Honestly I want to just build a box to the correct specs and see how they sound to determine whether or not it is the box keeping them from there full potential. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you have the ability to build a ported box to the correct specs, then by all means give it a shot. There are plenty of people on this forum that can design a nice box for them as well if you don't have the time to design it, but can build it. What version are your IDQ's?

It sounds great on rap songs with heavy bass but lacks sq on other types of music. I have set the amp with a ddm and tuned it all properly. They dont sound bad just honestly want to hear what they sound like in a box specifically made for them. If they sound the same I will atleast know its just how they sound.

If you want complete clearity and good impact and dynamics, go with a folded transmission line. Otherwise you might have to just play with the tunning. I built a folded transmission line for a single 12 and it did a very good job. I resorted back to a slot ported box because I wanted to still compete and wasnt ready to settel down yet. check out my build logs. I have two.

idq's and they dont sound good in a sealed box? how so?
I was wondering the same thing.

if they're in .95 each, that gives you a qtc of about .73, which is about optimal.

If you can go ported, it's woth playing around with. I'd say about 3 cubes to 28hz, but that's a quick guesstimate. Plenty of people on here that can draw somethin up for ya

What would be a good point to tune a ported box for them to? The owners manual says 1.5cuft at 28hz and a 4" round x 19.231" long port. Sound right?
