i currently have one 12" idMAX ported to 32hz being powered in 4 ohms by a modded MTX 1501d.. it sounds pretty loud but not loud enough to actually feel the bass enough to rattle my chest or anything.. the thing is i set the gain with a DMM and the sub level at +12 on my alpine. but i have the sub level at 3 for listening purposes to match my components.. if i listen with sub level at +12 the subs kinda drown out my infinity perfect components. if i got a second idMAX and ran it in 2 ohms with my modded mtx would i hear a noticbale difference? will i feel the bass more?? if i go with TWO idMAX's i would go sealed enclosure. how would that sound versus a single ported?

if ur single sub can drown out ur components, why would u want another sub...

anyways, i actually thought about this too, i want to go from a single ported to dual sealed. however money constraints are stopping me. if u have the money, go for it. u'll get the accuracy of sealed with the output of 2 12"s.

If your front stage cant keep up with the sub, then the sub isnt the problem. Have you thought about upgrading your speakers, so you can put the sub level back up?

Or, just not turn the sub level up as high //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif

But I fail to see how adding a second sub would solve anything here........

is it common for subs to drown out components that're getting 150 watts? i was skeptic about upgrading components cuz i'm not sure if their are any that can actually get SIGNIFICANTLY louder with the same amount of power.. wouldn't i be looking for more efficient components then? if so, what is a lot more efficient or louder than infinity perfect components? i thought that they would be up there.. well.. almost. or do u guys think if i upgrade from a hifonics nx600 (supposedly 150 watts x 2) my speakers will get a lot louder?

it all depends on your setup. im giving my comps ~100wrms and theyre still deafening and arent drowned out by the sub. i think u just need to work with the settings and install, and when u get the comps loud enough, then u can think about a second sub.

My guess is that you have your gains set a little off and one little tick can make a huge difference. Plus it is very easy to have your subs play louder than the rest of the system especially if it is hip hop or rap. If you set you gains right you could most likely add a sub and it would sound even better. I would balance my system and then re-evaluate. But 2 IDmax would not really overpower any front stage unless you are going with stock speakers and no external amp on them. You need a Digital multimeter and a test CD with the proper test signals.

well i've set my gains using a digital multimeter.. and i've made a CD of test tones ranging from 20hz to 200 hz.. i used soundforge to make them and they are set at a 0 db reference level too. ive used them to aide in setting my crossover points. my system is sounding very NICE. its kinda loud n very clear but i want it to go louder since i know now that my subs can go louder. the components dont get loud enough for me to say "CRAP I NEED TO TURN THAT SHIT DOWN" but the subs do if i turn the sub level up. but if i turn the sub level up of course, my comps get drowned out kinda. i have my comps in MDF rings so they are screwed tight to the door. no sound deadening yet.. what else can i do to make my comps get louder??

Well, you can give your current comps more power if they can handle it.

You can buy new comps and a new comp amp that can give/take 150 watts all day per channel. It sounds like you have a good install but you might need powerful comps and amp as well, they have them out there that can take over 200watts per channel and smile.
