Should I do 20"s?

My vote's for the 19s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dunno how you drive, but more rubber = good in my world //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just searched a few rim/tire sites and none of them have 225/40/20's

You can try 225/35s, or you can even do 245/35s. I don't remember who makes the 225/40, but I KNOW they exist, I had some on a 20x7.5 Motegi wheel on a 4 lug honda Accord.

From what I've heard 245/35 won't fit without rubbing.

I have no personal experience with the HHR, but if you are looking at 20x8.5's, that is the most accepted tire size.

Worst case scenario - roll the inner fender. Fairly easy thing to do, and allows for proper clearance.

The more I discuss it, the more I think you should go with 19's. Seems like you are less into the 'lets shove 20s on it!' and more into the 'nice slick looking wheels that wont cause problems later on down the road'

Given any thought to what kind of damages you'd be doing to your ******, brakes and gas milage?

Well trust me I do want 20"s more then 19"s, lol...but I've got to be logical- that's why I'm pretty much set on 19"s now.

As far as what it will do to the vehicle...I'm pretty sure for 19"s I'm going to do 245/35's, and I don't think those sway too far off from the stock tire size.

Don't know all that much about the effects bigger wheels can have...care to share with me?

Anytime you up the rolling mass on a vehicle, you mess with the components of the suspension/******/brakes. More Rolling mass = More to get it moving, and more to get it to stop!

I would highly recommend some minor upgrades along the lines of :

Flush ****** fluid and find some high performance fluid to replace it with.

Stainless Steel Braided brake lines (cleans up the brake response)/

Brake pads ( I'd sugguest something with better brake dust prevention, as the brake dust kills chrome!)

Possibly upgrade shocks/struts.

How much would the break lines/pads run?

Waste of money. Stainless steel brake lines. Are you f*cking kidding me? ****** flush? The car is brand new. Brake pads??? Waste also. Why get better brake pads with stock rotors?? I'd like to know how many poeple do this. Seriously.

See all the yukons/denail's, sierra's, ect. that have 17's for stock, but you can purchase a 20" rim from the dealer? Do you think for one second they do all that?

If you can find a close enough rim/tire combo that will match your stock's.. You will be fine.

I threw some bigger tires on my car that are +2.8% off and I have no problem. Let me know what your difference is.

For an example, I know countless amounts of people that run 18x9's on t-birds all day. With stock suspension/brakes/"****** fluid". No problems at all. The stock wheel size is 15x6.5...

Don't waste your money Snova, unless your taking it to the track or some shit. I highly doubt your doing that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Here you go with tire size.

Until Silver posted that link I was going to suggest goto one of the better known (read that as not a fly-by-night operation that actually has a reputation for good CS such as DiscountTireDirect.com or something akin to that) wheel & tire sites and check to see what your + sizing is going from whatever the HHR's OEM wheel/tire combo is to the 19s or 20s that you're wanting.

The reason I run a 205/40R17 on my Geo is that is the +3 tire size for my car...it came stock with 14s but the 17s that are on it are the same outsidel diameter (inside diameter and width being the obvious difference as compared to the OEM tire size) so my speedometer reading and gear ratio remain the same.

I would do the 19's and do a mild drop. Would look sick as hell! Shouldnt have to do all what that one guy said, would maybe check into the brake pads that casue less brake dust, I do believe that. I have a new focus and leaves a shit ton of brake dust. They actually make a pad that causes less brake dust, plus its grey so wont show up as easy. Also he is right, brake dust will eat at chrome. Had to throw away a set of 18's years ago. Wasted money that was, lol!

Nice rims your thinking of getting too. Should go well.

245/35R20 will fit with no rubbing. seen it and installed them myself. customer is a happy camper for 2 months now. i have run 245/35 and 255/35 and never had an issue. word of advice is get the nankang or wanli tires they are rebadged BFG's and Coopers/ good tires and for that size are looking at 180 per tire which i think is not bad at all. 19" tires are more expensive and harder to find.

ceramic pads= less brake dust , less noise but tend to warp the rotors quicker

semi metalics = tend to squeek more a leave more brake dust , better for the rotors..

stoping distance will vary
